Chapter 61: No One Can Resist a Sweet Girl

"Xiao Hao, this is for you."

"Wow! The Warlord X5!" Shen Hao shouted with delight, "That's so cool!"

Shen Xiangdong laughed and scolded him, "Look at you, losing your composure over a toy."

Immediately, Shen Hao turned to Jiang Sui and announced, "Sis, as long as you’re nice to me, we can play Warlord together from now on!"

Then he boasted to Shen Qian and Shen Li, "I have one too, you know."

After all, this was the toy he had always wanted but his mother had refused to buy for him. Shen Hao was practically bursting with excitement.

Jiang Sui smiled as well, then turned her gaze to Lin Hui. She carefully took out a white gift box, exquisitely beautiful.

"Mom, this is for you."

Lin Hui stared blankly at the gift box in Jiang Sui’s hands, her eyes somehow growing moist. When she opened it and saw the necklace inside, she was momentarily stunned.

"I remember when I was little, you lost a necklace and cried for a long, long time. You said it was your favorite, but it was never found. This isn’t the same necklace from back then, but it’s the closest I could find."

"Sui Sui… Mom…" Lin Hui was utterly moved, tears streaming down her face.

Her daughter still remembered, still remembered…

Most of the gifts had been given, but the atmosphere in the living room grew a little heavy, as if everyone was lost in their own thoughts.

Only Shen Xiangdong, while comforting Lin Hui, kept glancing at the table.

Everyone else had received a gift—was he to be left out? Had he treated Sui Sui too harshly, and so she hadn’t prepared anything for him? Or was it because he was the stepfather, and therefore undeserving of a gift?

In just a few seconds, Shen Xiangdong’s mind was racing—was Jiang Sui starting to dislike him, even plotting to break up the family and take Lin Hui away?

Shen Xiangdong felt a bit wronged. Everyone else had something—why not him?

"Uncle Shen, this is for you."

Shen Xiangdong was caught completely off guard. "I… I get a gift too?"

His face displayed shock, but every wrinkle broke into a smile.

"Of course. I’ve met you so many times and given you so much trouble. Please consider this my way of making amends," Jiang Sui said a little shyly.

Shen Xiangdong accepted the gift and opened it right then and there.

"This is a sandalwood prayer bead bracelet I strung myself. It’s said to bring wealth and ward off evil. If you like it to shine more, you can handle it often in your spare time."

Shen Xiangdong beamed with delight. "Wonderful! I’ll make sure to polish it every day!"

After the gifts had been handed out, Jiang Sui was ready to leave.

"Well, now that the gifts are given, I’ll be going. Mom, Uncle, don’t worry—I won’t trouble you anymore. I hope you’ll all be happy, and perhaps, I won’t come to bother you again."

She smiled, looking almost angelic, and after a slight nod, turned to leave the Shen household.

The whole family glanced at one another in surprise.

As Jiang Sui’s lonely figure neared the entryway, Lin Hui, encouraged by Shen Xiangdong, finally called out, "Sui Sui!"

Jiang Sui paused, looking at her in confusion.

"Won’t you stay for dinner?" Lin Hui smiled at her, her eyes brimming with tenderness and love.

Shen Xiangdong immediately added, "That’s right, it’s almost mealtime. Please stay and eat with us."

Shen Qian gave a brisk order, "Aunt Wang, set one more place for dinner tonight."

"Yes, young master."

Shen Li glanced at Jiang Sui, then looked away. "It’s just one meal. If you refuse, you’re not allowed to come back again."

Jiang Sui raised her eyebrows ever so slightly.

These two Shen brothers certainly had distinctive personalities.
