Chapter 34: Will Lu Ye Sabotage Me?
“You really don’t know why?”
“I truly don’t,” the system replied. “My only job is to send you to each world and hand you the script. The world itself is out of my control.”
“Then how come the person who opposes me in each life looks exactly the same?” Jiang Sui asked while changing her clothes. Halfway through, she suddenly remembered something. “Don’t you dare peek while I’m changing!”
The system coughed. “Ahem... To me, there’s really no difference whether you’re dressed or not.”
Jiang Sui thought about it; it sounded reasonable, but somehow, something felt off about that comment.
“So tell me, do you think Lu Ye is out to get me?” Jiang Sui, knowing she wouldn’t get any answers, decided to ask something else. “Based on my previous experience, he’s definitely my nemesis.”
“Don’t ask me. I have no idea either.”
Although the system said this, Jiang Sui could clearly sense a hint of guilt in its tone.
“How about I put a curse on him and make him a short-lived wretch?” Jiang Sui finished applying her lipstick, pursed her lips at the mirror, and even smiled.
The system said, “...You look a bit like the old witch from Snow White right now.”
Jiang Sui: ...
She was about to say something else when she realized the system had vanished.
Speaking of which, the system actually had a name.
It was called Wang Ergou.
But it didn’t seem to like this name very much, though curiously, every time she mentioned it, she could sense a trace of nostalgia.
It was bizarre—she even suspected at times that the system had a personality and feelings.
Could it be that there was an owner before her? And that owner named it Wang Ergou?
But as the saying goes, don’t poke at old wounds or expose people’s shortcomings.
So she never asked again.
Only when she was angry did she call it Wang Ergou.
When Jiang Sui left the villa, Lu Ye was busy with work.
She walked right past him without a word.
A faint trace of fruity perfume drifted by him, refreshing and alluring.
The scent was...
Delicious.
Lu Ye continued working, his face expressionless, but a fleeting glimmer flashed in his eyes.
“When will you be back?” he asked gently.
Jiang Sui paused. “Later.”
“Later” was such a convenient word. No one knew how long “later” would be.
“Alright.” He replied softly.
He sat on the sofa, sunlight slanting in through the floor-to-ceiling windows, casting a gentle golden halo over him.
The scene was so dreamy and surreal, as if it belonged in a comic book.
He simply sat there, yet his presence exhausted every beautiful word ever invented to describe a man.
Jiang Sui found herself briefly mesmerized by his looks.
In fact, in her previous life, she had even considered keeping that dog emperor by her side as a consort after ascending the throne.
But that dog emperor’s life was cut short, and he never got to enjoy such fortune.
What a pity, she thought.
At the café—
The refined man before her had shoulder-length hair, delicate features, wore gold-rimmed glasses, and was dressed head-to-toe in the latest designer brands.
He looked about twenty-five, very youthful.
He was clearly a man of taste.
A flamboyant man of taste, at that.
“Miss Jiang, are you inviting me to be your agent?” he asked, his tone meaningful as he sipped his coffee.
“What makes you think there’s any reason for us to work together?”
Jiang Sui smiled. “I know you’re the top agent at Whale Entertainment. Normally, you wouldn’t consider changing jobs. Without enough incentive, it would be nearly impossible to poach you. Not to mention, at the moment, I’m a minor celebrity riddled with scandals, unpopular with both investors and the market.”
Shi Heng lifted an eyebrow. “And then there’s the matter of your acting.”
Jiang Sui picked up her coffee, a playful smile on her lips as she took a sip.
My acting? If only you knew—acting is my profession.
I’ve played more roles than you’ve seen dramas in your life.
But outwardly, she only smiled. “But I believe, in the hands of a top agent like you, even a mere pretty face can become a golden ticket.”
