Chapter 135: Why Are You Sleeping Here, Sir?
She frowned, then reached out and drew a talisman in the air.
When the talisman settled onto Lu Ye, his sleep grew even deeper.
“Carry him outside,” she ordered.
The little paper figures immediately flew out from beneath the bed and carried the sound-asleep Lu Ye out of the room.
“What a lunatic,” Jiang Sui muttered with a frown before turning over and going back to sleep.
Aunt Zhang had woken in the middle of the night and come out of the servants’ quarters to fetch something. The moment she stepped out, she saw a horizontal human figure drifting through the darkness.
Terrified, she darted straight back into her room.
Her legs went weak, and she began chanting, “Amitabha Buddha.”
“May fortune be with me, may fortune be with me! Amitabha Buddha! Bodhisattva, protect me—I didn’t see anything! That’s right, that’s right, I didn’t see anything at all!”
Aunt Zhang did not dare leave her room again that night. She stayed locked inside until dawn the next morning, when she finally ventured out.
After getting Lu Ye out of the room, Jiang Sui’s little paper figures returned and thoughtfully closed the door for her.
But the moment she shut her eyes, her mind filled with images of that same face appearing in every world, belonging to people with entirely different identities.
As a result, Jiang Sui slept terribly that night.
Another night tormented by dreams.
And at the very end, she found herself starving by the roadside, begging for food.
A spoiled young master passed in front of her.
He took out a fragrant meat bun and held it before her.
“Want some?” he asked, smiling as though he were the most handsome man in all the world.
That face was so beautiful that even women would feel ashamed by comparison.
She nodded. “I do…”
He gave an evil grin and suddenly pulled the bun away. “Oh? Well, I’m not giving it to you.”
“…”
When Jiang Sui woke up, she had two dark circles beneath her eyes.
Her expression was cold and gloomy.
It seemed that next time she went to sleep, she would have to put a sleep talisman on herself.
Meanwhile, Lu Ye slowly opened his eyes in the living room.
His deep, somber gaze was unfathomable, as though it concealed some unspeakable secret.
For a long while, he remained silent, staring blankly at the ceiling above him.
“Oh!” Aunt Zhang exclaimed in fright when she saw Lu Ye on the sofa. “Sir, why are you sleeping here?”
Only then did Lu Ye come back to himself and look toward Aunt Zhang.
He slowly sat up on the sofa, his gaze drifting toward the staircase.
At that very moment, Jiang Sui had also gotten up.
When she stepped out of her room, she was already fully made up.
“His room burned down last night, so he sleepwalked over here,” she said from upstairs.
Aunt Zhang stared at her. “It burned down? How could it have caught fire for no reason?”
Jiang Sui raised an eyebrow and looked at Lu Ye.
Only to find that Lu Ye had been staring at her all along.
And that look in his eyes…
It gave her goosebumps.
“Oh, dear!” Aunt Zhang suddenly remembered something. “Sir, Madam, do you think there might be something wrong with this house?”
Her words drew both Lu Ye’s and Jiang Sui’s attention.
Looking frightened and nervous, Aunt Zhang continued, “Last night… last night I saw something floating past… And now I see you sleeping on the sofa. Could it be that what I saw last night… was you, sir?”
Lu Ye frowned.
Jiang Sui coughed awkwardly.
Aunt Zhang went on, “Sir, Madam, just look. Your room caught fire for no apparent reason, and then you suddenly ended up sleeping on the sofa… Could there be something wrong with this house?”
Aunt Zhang had truly never encountered anything like this before.
After all, how could a perfectly fine room simply catch fire?
And on top of that, she had witnessed such a bizarre sight the previous night.
No matter how she thought about it, something clearly seemed off.
Naturally, the first thing that came to Aunt Zhang’s mind was that the house was haunted.
