Chapter 4 The Director’s Bias
Another glamorous woman, holding the hand of a little boy and wearing sunglasses, complained, "Is being late on set something to brag about?"
Xu Manman immediately chimed in, "Sister Lan is right, but maybe Xixue had something come up. When you have kids, unexpected things always happen."
The woman in sunglasses was Li Lan, a former grand slam Best Actress winner, notorious for her relentless work ethic behind the scenes.
So, compared to Bai Xixue’s easygoing, wildly popular attitude, Li Lan often became the target for unfavorable comparisons.
After all, as a supporting actress, no matter how hard she worked, she couldn’t match Bai Xixue’s effortless luck and the constant stream of resources she attracted just by taking it easy.
In short, all the mother-child pairs on this reality show were there to ride the wave of Bai Xixue’s popularity.
"They’re here," a staff member announced, watching the mother and son stroll over at a leisurely pace.
Bai Xixue was dressed in comfortable loungewear, her face still heavy with sleep.
She was even yawning as she arrived.
In contrast, it was the handsome little boy leading her by the hand, almost dragging her along.
Jiang Sui stood with her arms crossed, arching an eyebrow.
One had to admit, this young boy already had the air of a little CEO, despite his age.
In this storyline, Bai Xixue was once the male lead’s unattainable love, who left while pregnant.
She returned five years later and was found by the male lead.
Having lost his beloved for five years, the CEO male lead now did everything in his power to make it up to mother and child, spoiling them endlessly.
When Bai Xixue wanted to enter the entertainment industry, he hired a professional team to craft her public image, and in no time, she amassed a legion of die-hard fans.
The mysterious CEO husband became a trending topic, fueling her popularity even more.
By now, the live broadcast chat was buzzing with excitement.
"My Xuebao is here! Hahaha, she’s so cute!"
"Xuebao and Xiaochuan are too adorable. They’re my favorite mother-son duo, no arguments!"
"You can tell Xuebao just woke up, hahaha—letting her son bring her over. Only she could think of that."
"Oh, if only I had such an angelic son! Even with his grumpy face, he still can’t leave his mom alone, hahaha..."
Bai Xixue yawned and said helplessly, "Why won’t you let me sleep a bit longer? Can’t the show’s tasks be handed to my son? I haven’t even finished my game yet."
Ji Chuan responded seriously, "Just tell me what needs to be done. I’ll help my mommy."
Jiang Sui couldn’t help but interject, "Are you sure you can handle it? I heard your cooking was a disaster today—aren’t you afraid you’ll give your mom food poisoning?"
Little Ji Chuan’s face immediately tensed, glaring angrily at Jiang Sui.
Bai Xixue quickly responded in an exaggerated accent, "Don’t say such wasabi-venomous things, okay? You’ll scare my son, you know!"
This deliberate attempt at humor sent the live chat into fits of laughter.
Barrage of comments:
"Hahahaha, my Xuebao is the funniest in the world!"
"Help, why is this so hilarious? What kind of accent is that, hahahaha!"
"I’m stunned, I never expected Xuebao to be so funny. Compared to her, Jiang Sui just seems petty and mean."
"I don’t get what’s so funny. Was Jiang Sui really wrong, though?"
But this lone voice was quickly drowned out by a flood of laughing comments.
Bai Xixue grumbled again, "Besides, the ingredients the show provides are so limited. What delicious food could we possibly make?"
Lu Xuanxuan was about to argue that Jiang Sui’s cooking was actually really good.
But then she thought, why should she help her out? So she puffed up her cheeks in frustration and stayed silent.
Still, the tomato and egg noodles she made were truly delicious...
Jiang Sui, arms crossed, looked up with a smirk. "That’s just because you’re not capable."
Bai Xixue was a little embarrassed, trying to save face, "Exactly, so isn’t slacking off the best option?"
