Chapter 130: A Touch of Human Warmth
After settling Miaomiao, Jiang Sui immediately contacted Chen He.
Chen He asked, “Boss, is there another battle about to begin? I’ll be the first to charge and throw myself into the fray!”
Jiang Sui replied, “Help me get an ID card and register my household.”
Chen He responded in surprise, “Boss, you wouldn’t happen to be hiding a child, would you?”
“Are you coming or not?” Jiang Sui asked.
“Of course! Leave it to me!” Chen He assured her.
Chen He was well-connected in this line of work. Nowadays, obtaining household registration and an ID card was no longer difficult; the procedures were straightforward. So she entrusted Chen He with the task.
They had already signed a confidentiality agreement, and Chen He was a person of integrity in the original script. Although Jiang Sui had asked Chen He’s Navy Studio to handle many matters, she trusted he wouldn’t betray her. His physiognomy suggested he was not the cunning or deceitful type. Moreover, their interests were now intertwined.
“Are you really going to keep this cat?” the system asked suspiciously. “You don’t mean to pet it, do you?”
Jiang Sui drove toward the villa. “If I keep it, it won’t take a piece of my flesh. Have you ever seen stray cats?”
“What about stray cats?” the system inquired.
Jiang Sui gently turned the steering wheel. “Most stray cats don’t live long. Kittens are fragile and have weak immunity; survival is difficult. Some are eaten or killed by wild dogs. But she survived because of kindness.”
She said softly, “You say she’s an atavism, but I think maybe… it’s because of that old lady. Everything in nature has a spirit. Perhaps this was a chance occurrence that gave her human-like intelligence.”
The system said, “I was only estimating based on the available data and initial scripts from each world. But I can confirm her existence does not belong to this world’s current settings.”
Jiang Sui smiled. “You speak as if I belong to this world’s setting.”
The system fell silent.
After a long pause, it curiously remarked, “Don’t you feel that in this life, you have gained a bit more humanity?”
Except for the first few lives, when she was affected by the people around her, she no longer experienced such emotions later on. All feelings had become mere façades—tools she used to survive in those worlds. Her personality grew numb and cold, becoming habitual.
But in this world, she seemed to be slowly changing. The human emotions within her were growing stronger.
“You’re a system. What do you know about humanity?” Jiang Sui raised an eyebrow.
The system was silent for a few seconds.
“I understand,” it said. “I understood when you wanted me to keep you company.”
Jiang Sui was momentarily stunned, recalling she had indeed said that to her dog.
She chuckled softly. “Is that so?”
After those words, the car fell silent, driving steadily toward Xihe Garden.
Because of work, Jiang Sui usually had a nanny take Xuanyuan out for walks or to extracurricular activities she enjoyed. Sometimes she’d invite neighborhood children over to play.
Most neighbors around Xihe Garden were either wealthy or noble, coming from well-established families. Jiang Sui encouraged Xuanyuan to play with these children, hoping to filter out bad boys and boring, domineering types early on.
As long as Lu Ye wasn’t home, she could do whatever she pleased.
Still, she had Shi Heng arrange four days off each month to spend time with Xuanyuan, and more whenever possible.
Though the nanny could keep her company, it couldn’t provide the sense of security or emotional warmth a child needs. The closer Xuanyuan grew to her, the greater Jiang Sui’s influence on her personality and growth.
When Jiang Sui returned to Xihe Garden, the lights were still on. From the porch to the front door, warm, soft lighting seemed never to extinguish, waiting for someone to come home.
But as she pushed open the door, an unusual feeling suddenly washed over her.
