Chapter 17: Something Happened to Xuanxuan

In her previous two lives, she had both been powerful masters of metaphysics, so she was now quite adept at using her abilities. She had once even asked the system, “Can I cultivate immortality?” If she could, wouldn’t that mean she could remain forever young and never die in this life? Perhaps she could even fly up to space for a look. But the system only replied with a single word: “Scram.”

“Is it really going to rain?” Lu Xuanxuan asked again. While stretching her limbs, Jiang Sui replied, “Yes, it’ll probably start pouring in about an hour.” Maybe it was because of yesterday’s exercise, but after sleeping, her whole body ached. It seemed that even though her powers had been returned to her, her body was still in dire need of movement and training.

The comments in the live stream scrolled by:
“Does Jiang Sui have some hidden skills again?”
“She’s bluffing. The weather’s so nice today, and the forecast said there’s no rain.”
“She’s making it up, probably trying to trick Xuanxuan.”
“I can’t stop laughing. Did you see her pretend to calculate with her fingers just now, like some fortune-teller? No wonder she’s an actress.”
“If only her acting on screen was half as good as she is now, I wouldn’t have criticized her.”
“Jiang Sui still has the nerve to stay here? If it weren’t for you, Xuexue and Xiaochuan wouldn’t have had to sleep in that rundown house last night! Now they’ve caught a cold. Aren’t you going to apologize?”

“Why don’t you people ahead go back to Bai Xixue’s live stream and stop making a fuss here?”

Although Jiang Sui said this, Lu Xuanxuan couldn’t sit still and ran out to play. Jiang Sui let her go. After all, the director’s team had said that last night Bai Xixue and Ji Chuan caught a cold after being out in the wind, and the kids from the other two groups were under the weather today from mild sunstroke, so there were no activities planned for today.

But what Jiang Sui didn’t know was that her live stream was now so popular that the production team wanted to give Bai Xixue and her son more screen time and interesting moments. So today, they arranged a special little task for them.

“Something’s wrong! Jiang Sui, you’d better go check on Xuanxuan!” A staff member hurried inside. Even Tina, her usually behind-the-scenes manager, had come. “Jiang Sui, you need to check on Xuanxuan—something’s happened to her!” Tina looked deeply worried.

Jiang Sui’s expression darkened and she rushed out immediately. Meanwhile, fans in her live stream were also posting frantically:

“Jiang Sui, hurry next door—something happened to Xuanxuan!”
“I just came from there. Xuanxuan’s eyes are swollen from crying. It’s heartbreaking!”
“Jiang Sui, go! Baby Xuanxuan needs you!”

“(Sobbing) I saw it—Xuanxuan fell so badly!”

“What happened?” Jiang Sui asked in a low voice as she strode forward. She needed to know exactly what was going on.

“The production team just gave Bai Xixue and Xiaochuan a task. It was supposed to be done by the adults—they needed to fetch something from a small hill not far from their room. But Bai Xixue made Ji Chuan go, and let Xuanxuan go with him. Xuanxuan accidentally fell and there was so much blood!”

By the time Jiang Sui arrived, Xuanxuan had already been carried onto a chair by the staff. Her little leg, beneath her dress, was a bloody mess. She was hugging her leg, sobbing so hard she could hardly catch her breath—it was truly heartbreaking.

“The doctor’s on the way, Xuanxuan will be fine,” a staff member tried to comfort her. There was a doctor with the crew, but he wasn’t always present, and there was some distance from where they were staying, so it would take at least ten minutes for him to get there.

When Lu Xuanxuan looked up and saw Jiang Sui, her sense of grievance only deepened, and her crying grew even louder.

Jiang Sui immediately went over, gathered her into her arms, and said calmly, “Let me take a look.”
