Chapter 10: If You Dig, Dig Deep
The host had intended to put Jiang Sui in a difficult spot during the interview, hoping to stir up some drama and attract more attention. Yet every answer Jiang Sui gave left him with nothing to follow up on. Though her responses were sensational, they didn’t quite fit with the script the production team had provided—one where Jiang Sui was to be suppressed in order to elevate Bai Xixue. In the end, the host could only abandon his plan in frustration.
Viewers who witnessed this segment of the interview flooded the live chat with a frenzy of messages.
“Gosh, Jiang Sui spoke so well. I’m afraid of heights too. Whenever my teachers or parents tell me to overcome this fear, I feel like there’s nothing in this world worth holding on to. Who could possibly understand that feeling?”
“I understand, I really do! I absolutely hate being forced to do something I despise!”
“She said she’d protect her! Yet another day of tears for family bonds—this is just so moving!”
“Wait a minute, can anyone tell me why Jiang Sui is so amazing? That platform! And this suspension bridge! Ordinary people couldn’t possibly do that!”
“She’s so impressive—could Jiang Sui be a secret agent hiding in the entertainment industry?”
“If you’re going to dig, dig deep!”
“Our Sui Sui is a hidden gem! She just keeps surprising me!”
“I’m stunned—Jiang Sui is incredible!!”
“I apologize for what I said about Jiang Sui earlier! I didn’t recognize her worth! From now on, you’re my idol—whatever you say, I’ll follow.”
“That sounds nice, but anyone can say pretty things. Let’s see if she talks so bravely if someone actually falls.”
“Exactly! She’s not taking Xuanxuan seriously at all. What if something happened? I think it’s because she’s not her biological child, so she’s just being irresponsible…”
“For those haters, the way you talk—if your mom had accidentally sat on you at birth and squashed you, would you still be able to laugh now? Not the same thing, is it?”
“That cracked me up, hahaha! The sister up there really knows how to roast! If your books aren’t in the bookstore, I’m not reading!”
…
After Jiang Sui and Lu Xuanxuan finished the game ahead of schedule, they found a shady spot to relax and enjoy some drinks. They’d only waited ten or twenty minutes before the other three teams finally arrived at the finish one after another.
The last group, Bai Xixue and her son, took so long that the director rallied everyone to cheer them on. As they reached the suspension bridge, Bai Xixue was so terrified she shrieked and refused to move forward. Her son tried in vain to persuade her, doing his best to encourage her. But after a long delay, Ji Chuan had no choice but to drag his mother across.
To showcase how independent her son was under her “laissez-faire” parenting, Bai Xixue deliberately let Ji Chuan put on her safety gear and fasten her harness himself. Her fans in the chat immediately started singing her praises.
“Xuexue’s parenting is the best. Look how independent Xiaochuan is! Unlike some people who raise their daughters to be pampered canaries.”
“Xiaochuan is amazing! No wonder he’s Xuebao’s son!”
“I’m dying to know—how can I have a son like Xiaochuan without any hassle?”
…
But Ji Chuan was still very young and inexperienced, so the harness he fastened for Bai Xixue wasn’t secured properly. While crossing the suspension bridge, both Bai Xixue and her son nearly fell off, terrifying the production crew and staff. If not for the staff’s quick reaction, both mother and son would have been injured.
