Chapter 86: The Nature to Bite
Upon arriving at the People's Hospital, Tang Ye was rushed into the operating room. Ling Qin, knowing her place, went to pay the fees. Although it pained her to part with the money, she felt no resentment, for saving Tang Ye was worth it, and besides, it was all Zeng Yilong’s money—why not use it?
After settling the payment, Ling Qin saw Bin Du pacing anxiously outside the operating room. Amused, she said, “Why are you so nervous? The doctors said her life isn’t in danger.”
“I know, but I can’t help worrying.”
“You two… are together now, aren’t you?” Ling Qin had long sensed the ambiguous bond between them and couldn’t help but ask.
Bin Du recalled the misunderstanding with Yilin Fang, uncertain what she truly thought. “I’m not sure if you could say that.”
“What do you mean, ‘not sure’? Girls won’t say it outright. If you don’t take the initiative, no one will know what you’re thinking. Don’t end up regretting it just for the sake of playing it cool.” Ling Qin rolled her eyes in exasperation—after so long, he was still as dense as ever.
“All right, all right, spare me your sarcasm.” Bin Du understood Ling Qin’s meaning; she was still caught up in the misunderstanding about Yilin Fang. He’d have to find a chance to explain, and then it would be resolved.
Suddenly, a scream erupted from the operating room: “Monster!” Several nurses, faces pale with terror and streaked with blood, frantically fled. The sight sent both of them rushing inside.
The scene was chaos: equipment overturned, blood splattered everywhere. Tang Ye sat atop the operating table, feeding on the chief surgeon’s blood, her wings unfurled slightly behind her.
“Tang,” Bin Du was momentarily stunned.
She dropped the body and looked at them in bewilderment. “What’s wrong with you two?”
“Tang, why did you bite an innocent person to death?” Ling Qin, too frightened to approach, kept her distance.
“I was so hungry, I couldn’t help myself. I didn’t want to, but I couldn’t control it.”
Bin Du wrapped her in his arms, comforting her. “Don’t say anymore, it’s not your fault. We need to get out of here now.”
He guessed she needed blood after losing so much, and though she was half-human, her vampire nature prevailed. The trouble she’d caused gave him a headache.
Soon, the police would arrive, perhaps even the media. Then the whole world would know she was a vampire, making her not only an enemy to those with special powers but also a target for global scientific research.
Bin Du grabbed a towel and wiped the blood from her face. “Can you use your abilities now?”
“No, but I still have my vampire strength,” Tang Ye replied, shaking her head.
Just then, sirens wailed outside, an army descending upon the hospital. Bin Du glanced out the window and saw dozens of police cars surrounding the area, officers blocking every entrance and exit.
“This is bad,” Ling Qin fretted. If she was caught by the police, she’d be in real trouble—not just a social media influencer, but the fiancée of Zeng Yilong, one of the top ten tycoons.
“I’m fine now,” Tang Ye said, enduring the pain as she stood.
“Don’t move, be careful of your wound,” Bin Du cautioned, supporting her. He sighed. “Ling, you should leave while you can; they won’t suspect you.”
“There’s no getting off this pirate ship now, you think I can just walk away? You think the surveillance cameras are just for show?”
The police, responding to the report of a monster killing people in the hospital, sealed off every exit. The siblings Li Ping and Li Ning received orders and led the new investigative team, arriving to see police already evacuating civilians.
“Citizens, please calmly head this way and cooperate,” Li Ping called out, and a dozen officers entered the hospital with Li Ning at the forefront. Liu Zhi Min, the commander for this monster hunt, guarded the perimeter, practically sealing the hospital airtight for the sake of a promotion.
Ji Jian Feng, captain of the criminal police, approached him. “Old Liu, I’ve got things under control on my end, how’s yours?”
“Don’t worry, Old Ji. With the net I’ve cast, the hospital is impenetrable—even if that monster had wings, it couldn’t escape.” The two exchanged knowing smiles, both hoping for accolades and advancement.
Inside, Tang Ye folded her wings and, with Bin Du’s help, walked through the corridors. At every exit, patients could only leave after their identities were checked.
Tang Ye sighed. “I’m truly sorry for causing all this trouble, dragging you and your unborn child into it.”
Ling Qin tried to lighten the mood. “Oh, it’s nothing. My son will look after his mother, I’m sure.”
“What name will you give the child when he’s born?”
Ling Qin thought for a moment. “Yilong said to name him Jia Wei. Ha, I don’t mind either way.”
As they chatted idly, Bin Du was speechless. The police were actively hunting them, after all. His eyes flashed with alarm as he shielded Tang Ye. “We’ve been found.”
“There she is—quick!”
“Target locked, open fire.”
Bullets whizzed toward them. The three raced up the stairs. Bin Du could hardly believe it. “Damn, they’re shooting already!”
He saw Tang Ye clutching her wound, drenched in sweat. “You’re bleeding.”
“It’s fine, just keep moving,” Tang Ye replied, her injury worsening from the exertion.
“No, I won’t let anything happen to you.”
Tang Ye was taken aback—what did this mean? Didn’t he already have Yilin Fang? Why was he so concerned for her? Conflicted, she asked, “Why are you looking at me like that?”
Bin Du grabbed bandages from a medical room and wrapped her wound.
Tang Ye blushed, turning away. “It’s nothing.”
Ling Qin was exasperated by their flirtation. Spotting people approaching, she interrupted, and the three dashed from Block A to Block C, only to find themselves encircled there as well.
“They’re here!”
Li Ping led the pursuit. Bin Du was surprised to see him; Li Ping knew Tang Ye’s identity, but as a police officer, he couldn’t openly communicate with him.
Fortunately, they slipped into a corridor used for transporting bodies. Bin Du jammed the door with a broom. He looked down. “No way to go down, only up.”
Tang Ye coughed a few times, clearly at her limit. “Let’s head to the rooftop. I can still manage to fly.”
Just as they prepared to reach the rooftop, Li Ning appeared at the stairwell, guns drawn. “Don’t move.”
