Chapter 82: Wu Qiwei’s Conspiracy
“Damn it, how did things end up like this?” Bai Yu Jie looked helplessly at his daughter, unable to believe she had fallen in love with a vampire.
“Uncle, what do we do now?” Wu Qiwei was already panicking, unable to accept the truth.
“Can humans and they really resolve this hatred that’s lasted for thousands of years?” Ye Mengyao murmured.
“Impossible, it could never happen. If we see her again, she is to be killed without mercy,” Ye Yongjian forced out the words with great difficulty. His heart ached; he didn’t know if he could bring himself to kill his own daughter.
“This is a lie, it can’t be true—how could my sister…?” Ye Qian cried out, and Ye Lan hugged her, dazed, saying, “She’s changed, she’s really changed.”
She remembered how Ye Mei had once been so passionate, but when she returned, she seemed like a different, unfamiliar person.
Back to the present, after hearing the story of how her parents met and fell in love, Ye Tang grew quiet. “You told me this story to warn me away from humans, didn’t you?”
“No, I want you, as my daughter, to share the burden of the coming war with me.”
“You’re planning to start a war.” Ye Tang was instantly wary.
“The savage glint in humanity’s eyes, their ugly nature, the order they build solely by pulling the trigger—this world always belongs to those in power. Who can you trust in the end, except yourself? You should know that the weak will always follow the strong, and when you win, you are justice.”
“That’s not how things are. You don’t understand this world at all. If you choose war, I will stop you. As your daughter, I’ll do everything I can to prevent this war. I want to wake you up, to make you see the world anew.”
“You really want to stand against me? Very well, I’ll wait for you. If you have the strength, use it to stop me.” Pan pointed to the stone on her chest, knowing it was suppressing her true power. With that, he left.
As Pan walked down the corridor, a figure in black robes appeared ahead, crouched low. Pan said, “He’s here.”
“Yes, he’s already waiting for you at the top of Demon Star Tower,” replied Yasuo, Pan’s chief warrior.
“During my meeting, protect the young lady. Don’t let her approach Demon Star Tower.”
“Yes, sir.”
Pan headed for Demon Star Tower. Before long, he reached the summit, where Wu Qiwei was waiting. “You’re finally here. I’ve been waiting a long time.”
“Wu Qiwei, you’ve grown more cunning—using my love for my daughter to lure me out. Speak!” Pan stood before him. It was laughable; after so many years, he found Wu Qiwei even harder to read. Thinking back to the naive Wu Qiwei of the past, he couldn’t help but find it absurd.
“I can help you take revenge on humanity. I can also provide the latest product—the Z serum,” Wu Qiwei said, gesturing toward a device inside the signal tower.
“The Z serum—what’s that?” Pan saw a machine running inside.
Wu Qiwei took out a device from his suit pocket. “It’s a highly contagious virus. Any human exposed to it in the air will be infected and die within a month. The transmitter can be linked to this point.”
“This thing is pointless, but since you’re offering it, I’ll accept. Now tell me, what do you want?”
“I need your genes.”
“What for?” Pan’s face was puzzled.
“If my reasoning is correct, my plan will be perfect—because you are the only pureblood left in this world.”
The ambition in his words was unmistakable. Pan sensed that Wu Qiwei might interfere with his own plans, so he probed further. “Tell me your plan.”
“To break through my limits. I’ve hit a bottleneck, and the only way forward is through you.”
“You think I’ll give you what you want?”
“If I succeed…” Wu Qiwei smiled slightly, leaned in, and whispered into his ear.
Startled by what he heard, Pan exclaimed, “What? That’s impossible!”
“If you trust me, nothing is truly impossible.”
“If you can really do what you say, I’ll cooperate.” Seeing Wu Qiwei’s determination, Pan decided to take a gamble. If what he said was true, perhaps the regret that had haunted him all these years could finally be resolved.
“Then, here’s to our partnership.” The two shook hands, each with their own agenda, their collaboration destined to plunge the world into chaos.
Meanwhile, at the hotel, Ye Tang found Du Bin and the two discussed their escape plan. Since her recent outburst, she’d been able to use her wings at will, but she still refused to accept her identity and would never take on her vampire form.
She slowly opened the door, peeked out—no one was in the corridor—then quickly led Du Bin toward the elevator.
They were almost there when a figure appeared ahead. Startled, Ye Tang attacked first, but Yasuo dodged easily. “Miss, I think you should return to your room.”
“Tch, what a nuisance.” Seeing him pursue relentlessly, Ye Tang had no choice but to use her powers. She hurled fireballs at the ceiling, using the explosion and falling debris to block his way, but Yasuo walked through it all as if nothing happened. Ye Tang signaled Du Bin to go ahead, and he slipped into the elevator.
“I don’t want to hurt you, Miss. But if you keep this up, I’ll have to bring you back by force,” Yasuo said, knowing his orders were to keep her safe and under watch.
“I’m not going back. Since you’ve chosen war, then we’re on opposite sides.”
“In that case, I have nothing more to say. I’ll bring you back, whether you like it or not.” Yasuo flew at her, but Ye Tang rolled aside and ran for the emergency exit.
With Yasuo close behind, she threw more fireballs at him as she desperately ran down over twenty flights of stairs, finally slumping against a wall, gasping for breath, her legs numb and lungs burning.
Yasuo retracted his wings and emerged from the stairwell, aware that daytime crowds made it unwise to draw attention. He stood before her, amused. “You ran so hard, but in the end, you’ll just be brought back. Why deny your bloodline when you’re one of us?”
“Whether I accept it or not is not for you to decide.”
“Have you truly made up your mind? Is this your choice?”
