Chapter 11: General's Mountain
Xiang snapped back to reality and said, “Why? Weren’t you going to kill me? Why aren’t you making a move?”
The girl ignored him, picking up the sword that was plunged into the ground. Xiang continued loudly, “Are you trying to say that if the sword hadn’t deliberately missed, I’d be dead already?”
“I’m not killing you immediately because I need to know why you lured me out here,” the girl replied with a wave of her hand. Eight swords instantly withdrew from his side, and one sword returned to her hand.
“I didn’t expect your power to be so formidable. Truly worthy of being the nemesis of vampires. Unfortunately, even I don’t know the details of this matter. I was only helping them temporarily. Still, I’m glad I found you. I believe the King of the Blood Clan will be very interested in you, the heir candidate of the Hunter Family. I’m sure you’ll meet again someday, Miss Ye Tang.”
“Miss? What do you mean?” The girl was stunned. What was he implying? Why call her ‘Miss’?
Xiang had intended to explain, but then his brow furrowed. “This is pointless. If you want to kill me, then do it.”
“Hmph. Who knows what the future holds? My duty is to eliminate your kind.” With that, Ye Tang stabbed toward his heart with her sword. Xiang closed his eyes and smiled faintly.
She showed no emotion, not even a hint of hesitation. After killing Xiang, there were no threats left nearby. Du Bin and the others emerged from the car. Though she had unintentionally injured herself earlier, they were still grateful she had saved them.
“Thank you so much. You saved me again,” Qin Ling exclaimed with joy, clutching Ye Tang’s hand, clearly having forgotten her ruthless side. Ye Tang, however, looked displeased.
“Miss Ye, we’re all curious why these vampires want to capture Qin Ling,” Du Bin said, wanting to know the real reason behind the vampires’ pursuit of Qin Ling.
As Ye Tang was about to speak, she sensed a murderous aura approaching from behind. Instinctively, she pushed Du Bin aside and turned just as a shaft of blue light shot toward her. Ye Tang dodged it.
“To kill a vampire so easily—looks like you’re quite capable for someone so young and just starting out,” suddenly a man appeared before them, also wielding a sword. He wore a gray suit and, though middle-aged in appearance, still retained the handsome elegance of his youth.
Ye Tang became wary. “Who are you?”
“So alike... You look just like your late mother,” the man stared at her with astonishment.
Ye Tang was surprised. It seemed this man knew her mother. Du Bin and Hu Guozheng shielded Qin Ling, retreating, their guns ready to fire at any moment.
“You must have heard the name Wu Qiwei,” the man said. Seeing her reaction, he smiled, “No wonder. Your two aunts must have hidden my existence from you.”
“No need for such a tense expression, beautiful. Your mother and I were childhood friends. To master the Eight Sword Formation, you need not only immense willpower but also extraordinary capacity, since it requires continuous supply of mental energy during its execution.” He drew his sword, immediately putting Ye Tang on guard. Wu Qiwei unleashed his power, and his sword ignited with blue flames. This force was several times stronger than Ye Tang’s. As he called out, seven more swords appeared around him.
“What!” Ye Tang was shocked. She never expected this man would display his signature technique before her, and with greater power than her own.
“If you and my mother were childhood friends, you must be a Hunter. Why are you working with vampires?” Ye Tang was truly puzzled. Hunters and zombies cooperating was unheard of.
Wu Qiwei smiled mysteriously. The eight swords all pointed at Ye Tang, making her unable to act rashly. He slowly approached Qin Ling. Though Du Bin and Hu Guozheng wanted to protect Qin Ling, even Ye Tang dared not act.
With a loud thud, Wu Qiwei kicked the two aside. Du Bin was knocked to the ground. Wu Qiwei warned, “If you want to stay alive, don’t move.”
Du Bin held his dizzy head, glaring furiously at the man, but his anger was overshadowed by fear. Wu Qiwei swiftly subdued Qin Ling, knocking her unconscious and picking her up. Suddenly, a giant bat appeared, gripping Wu Qiwei by the shoulders and lifting him off the ground.
“If you want answers, come to General’s Mountain to rescue her. If you make it, I’ll tell you about your mother’s past. See you soon, little beauty.”
With that, the bat carried him away. Faced with the scene, Hu Guozheng’s suppressed fear finally erupted. He threw his knife to the ground and stared at his trembling hands. “I suddenly feel like I just brushed past death itself.”
Ye Tang said nothing, remaining eerily calm, calm enough to unsettle those around her. Suddenly, her eyes hardened. “Hey! Are you two going to rescue her?”
“Though she’s not close to us, we are partly responsible for her capture. Facing danger without fear—that’s what makes a true man.”
“Damn it!” Du Bin hesitated. They had no real reason to get involved in this mess, but at that moment, Hu Guozheng gave a resolute answer. Du Bin knew the fat man must have been deeply shaken, so he sighed and nodded.
Two hours later, in a dark corridor, lights suddenly flickered on. It was an iron prison. Each cell contained various people, all shackled with chains, unable to struggle. An elderly man with greying temples and a Mediterranean baldness entered with a broad smile, walking down the corridor and stopping before a cell where Qin Ling, just recently captured, was resisting.
“No need to struggle. The more you fight, the stronger the electric shock from those chains. You’d best behave, Miss Qin.”
“Why did you capture me?”
“Our purpose is simple. We heard you possess clairvoyant abilities, so we’d like you to cooperate with us.” He lit a cigar and puffed away.
Qin Ling stopped struggling and said, “I’ve never known I had such abilities, let alone others. How do you know who has superpowers? Don’t try to fool me.”
“It’s not surprising you don’t know. I have specialized equipment that detects who has abilities. That’s all you need to know. Your job is to cooperate and transfer your abilities to someone else.”
“What if I don’t cooperate?”
“Then you’ll have to become a corpse before we extract them.”
“Scum.” Qin Ling snorted coldly.
At that moment, the door opened again and a subordinate hurried in. “Dr. She, Mr. Ma is looking for you.”
“All right, I’ll be there soon.” The man called Dr. She quickly left the prison and entered a dimly lit room. A fat, middle-aged man was sitting on the sofa, savoring foreign liquor. His face was round, and his bulging frog-like eyes looked comical. He was Ma Jinlong, a man who had made his fortune in smuggling in the Guangdong region. Wu Qiwei, who had taken Qin Ling, stood beside him.
