Chapter Seventy-Nine: No Hope for Reappointment
“Mm!”
Hearing Su Zheng’s question, Chen Muxue nodded emphatically, her beautiful eyes brimming with resolve.
Though she still harbored some doubts about Su Zheng’s medical skills, his recent actions convinced her to take the risk.
“Very well!”
Su Zheng nodded in agreement.
President Jiang’s condition was dire, but there was still hope for him!
“Wonderful!”
Li Yanze’s face lit up with joy, tinged with urgency. “Divine Doctor Su, please, do what you can as soon as possible!”
Yet Su Zheng stood unmoving, a hint of significance in his expression as he said,
“Don’t worry. Leave President Jiang to me. But before I begin, I have a few words for someone else.”
With that, he turned his gaze to Ye Lang, whose face had grown unsightly.
“Remember, prepare one hundred million, and don’t forget your apology.”
Having spoken, Su Zheng finally walked up to Jiang Shaoxiong. By now, Su Zheng had entered his diagnostic state and did not notice the proud smile playing on Chen Muxue’s lips behind him.
“Move aside!”
He barked at the female assistant supporting Jiang Shaoxiong, then pulled the unconscious man in front of him and rolled up the sleeve of his left arm.
Due to sluggish blood flow, Jiang Shaoxiong’s arm had taken on the same ashen, bluish hue as his face, and his skin was icy cold—an extremely perilous state.
Su Zheng ran his hand up Jiang Shaoxiong’s arm, locating the brachial artery, then pressed his right thumb firmly into the bend of the elbow, pinching the artery. In a cold, commanding tone, he addressed the chaotic crowd, “Silence!”
Then he ordered the female assistant loudly, “Come here and hold him steady!”
In this moment, Su Zheng exuded an air of authority that brooked no dissent, as though commanding all present. Yet no one felt offended. The crowd instantly fell silent.
The female assistant nodded hurriedly and, following Su Zheng’s instructions, firmly supported Jiang Shaoxiong from behind.
“Stand still and do not move!”
Su Zheng commanded sternly. Then, bunching the fingers of his left hand together, palm slightly hollowed, he struck Jiang Shaoxiong’s left chest—right over his heart. Jiang’s body shuddered, though his face showed no change.
Without pausing, Su Zheng delivered another firm slap to the same spot.
The crowd collectively held their breath, their faces tense with worry. With such rough treatment, wouldn’t the patient be dead if he wasn’t already?
Yet at this critical moment, none dared question Su Zheng’s methods. After all, even if they stopped him, they had no better way to save Jiang Shaoxiong.
“Look, President Jiang is waking up!”
A sharp-eyed onlooker exclaimed in delight.
All eyes turned to Jiang Shaoxiong. His previously bluish face was indeed slowly regaining consciousness. Even the dark hue was rapidly fading, swiftly paling, and then gradually flushing with healthy color once more.
The crowd erupted in gasps and exclamations. Someone, unable to contain their joy, began to applaud, and soon applause echoed all around.
“Incredible! Absolutely incredible! A few slaps and he brought someone back from the brink!”
“So young and already such mastery—his future knows no bounds!”
“Indeed! Far better than those charlatans who nearly killed him through sheer incompetence!”
The crowd clapped and chattered boldly, caring not whether Cui Lin heard. Cui Lin’s face was ashen, but seeing that Jiang Shaoxiong was out of danger, he breathed a sigh of relief—at least he would not be held responsible. Yet his gaze toward Su Zheng was devoid of gratitude, brimming only with seething hatred.
Su Zheng faced the applause and praise with calm indifference, showing no sign of arrogance. Instead, a trace of self-mockery flitted across his face. “You’re all in such a hurry to praise me—are you not afraid President Jiang might faint again at any moment?”
At his words, the applause vanished and the chatter died out, leaving everyone slightly abashed.
The female assistant, however, turned pale at once, anxiously edging closer to Su Zheng. “Are you saying President Jiang is still in danger?”
“As long as you don’t let him take random medicines again, he’ll be fine,” Su Zheng responded coolly, shooting Cui Lin a sidelong glance filled with contempt.
At that moment, Cui Lin’s complexion rivaled that of Jiang Shaoxiong at his lowest point. Remembering his earlier, confident assurances and his mocking of Su Zheng, he felt utterly humiliated. No longer able to face anyone, he grabbed his bag and tried to flee the crowd.
“Divine Doctor Su, what do you think…”
Li Yanze narrowed his eyes, quietly hinting to Su Zheng—should they detain Cui Lin?
After all, everyone still remembered the wager.
“Let him go. Isn’t there still someone else here who matters?”
Su Zheng glanced at Ye Lang with a faint, knowing smile, his demeanor unruffled.
Ye Lang: “…”
At that moment, Ye Lang could not have felt more miserable. Never had he imagined that the Cui Lin he had brought along would lose so completely to Su Zheng.
Recalling the wager, his face grew ashen—not because he begrudged the money (a hundred million was nothing to him), but because of the blow to his pride.
He had come to Qingyang full of ambition, ready to make his mark. Yet before he could even begin, he had been utterly humiliated by this so-called “nobody”—his plans derailed before they had even started.
“Divine Doctor Su, ah… how about this? I, Li Yanze, will pay Ye Lang’s debt on his behalf. Would that suffice?”
Li Yanze asked quietly, a bit awkwardly. He did not wish to offend Ye Lang—after all, the Ye family of the capital wielded great power, and the Li family had no desire to create a new enemy out of thin air.
Su Zheng shot him a sidelong glance, his expression tinged with displeasure.
“President Li, each must answer for his own actions. I’ll handle this myself, but thank you for your offer.”
Ye Lang spoke in a low, grim voice. He then pulled out his phone and briskly transferred one hundred million to Li Yanze, saying,
“Please make sure this gets to him. Until we meet again.”
With that, he turned to leave.
“Stop!”
Su Zheng’s expression turned cold. “You can’t just walk away like this—believe me?”
His voice was full of confidence and sharpness, making Ye Lang’s body tremble. He remembered what Su Zheng had done to him before; now that Cui Lin had fled, he feared Su Zheng might cripple his arms for real!
“I’m sorry!”
Ye Lang’s mind buzzed in disbelief. Never in his life had he apologized to someone’s face—usually, he was the one manipulating events and making rivals bow their heads.
Yet now, here in Qingyang, he had suffered an almost unimaginable humiliation.
After apologizing, Ye Lang left without looking back.
Su Zheng remained calm and composed, instructing the female assistant to help Jiang Shaoxiong to his feet and let him move a little.
“Young man, th-thank you… Thank you for saving my life…”
