At that moment, all the survivors felt that Zi Hui was the goddess in their hearts.

Such a title had absolutely nothing to do with romance; it was reverence from the soul, the kind that made one long to kneel in worship.

"Everyone, move quickly. Do not stop!" Qin Hao's telepathic force spread out, and the remaining seven or eight thousand survivors began to run once more.

Though they admired their goddess deeply, their strength was nowhere near enough to protect her. On the contrary, staying alive was what mattered most.

The survivors fled ahead, while the zombies came into view before Qin Hao.

Zi Hui looked at these human forms twisted into monstrous, zombie-like visages, and a chill rose within her.

Ordinary people feared zombies because they lacked the power to face them. Zi Hui, of course, was not supposed to be afraid. Even if she had once been only a delicate idol singer, she was now a third-level psychic evolver.

And yet, facing tens of thousands of zombies, facing survivors who could be infected at any moment, she felt suffocated.

Zi Hui's psychic power surged wildly once more, bursting forth in streams of light.

But when that radiance fell upon the zombies, it did not dispel the virus; instead, it drove them to shriek in agony, black smoke rising from their bodies.

The zombies cried out.

Pain made their steps even more staggered.

Zi Hui withdrew the golden light, at a loss.

Qin Hao said, "Once the virus invades the body, there is an incubation period. But if it enters the brain through the bloodstream, a human will die completely. The golden light you're releasing now is killing the virus inside them, and that virus has already become part of their bodies."

"Is there really no other way?" Zi Hui asked, helpless, her eyes faintly sad.

"They are no longer human," Qin Hao reminded her.

Zi Hui sighed.

So many had died since the end of the world began that she no longer felt emotion with great violence. After all, she was perceptive, even somewhat calculating.

But now, faced with this vast tide of zombies, she was truly shaken.

They were moving, and yet they had already become corpses.

Still, she clenched her teeth and finally began to unleash her light-based power, attacking the zombies.

Qin Hao's psychic tendrils also spread outward, searching for that figure within the horde.

The Voodoo Demon.

This creature had to be destroyed.

"Found it!"

Qin Hao's gaze sharpened.

He took a block of iron from his spatial ring, then, with a movement of psychic force, the iron instantly transformed into countless needles that shot outward like a burst of fireworks.

"Thud, thud, thud, thud, thud!"

The heads of dozens of zombies around Qin Hao were pierced.

Qin Hao strode directly into the zombie horde.

The zombies immediately bared their fangs and claws, trying to tear Qin Hao apart and gnaw at his flesh.

These zombies had no hunting instinct bestowed by gods, but they possessed an almost fanatical craving for human blood.

"Ha!"

Qin Hao suddenly shouted. His life force trembled, and his right hand, along with the arm, turned into golden scales.

Dragon Transformation.

At once, Qin Hao's right hand was filled with overwhelming strength.

With star power pouring into him, Qin Hao punched forward.

In an instant, a massive golden fist-shape appeared in the void. As Qin Hao drove it onward, it surged farther and farther, slamming into the zombie horde.

The zombies were instantly shattered by the impact. The road itself looked as though it had been plowed over; the asphalt ripped up and flew away, and the tremendous force carved out a path for Qin Hao.

Qin Hao's life force was simply too powerful.

"Die!"

He used an even more savage method to slaughter the horde.

Qin Hao crushed these zombies in an instant and fought his way to the center of the mass.

Even the Voodoo Demon seemed to sense how different Qin Hao's strength was. It quickly summoned zombies to gather around itself.

The zombies at its side had all been evolvers in life; some had even broken the first genetic lock. After turning into zombies, they had become even stronger, comparable to first-level evolved creatures.

Several zombies joined forces, trying to force Qin Hao back.

But that was impossible.

How could these first-level zombie evolvers possibly do anything to Qin Hao?

Qin Hao had already spotted the Voodoo Demon, and it was still more than thirty meters away.

"Ptui!"

The Voodoo Demon spat a mouthful of jade-green saliva at Qin Hao. Black-green mist spread outward around it, trying to invade Qin Hao's body.

But Qin Hao's body was now utterly pure within, his life force terrifying. The aura emanating from every pore was enough to resist this poison. Even if it had not been, he would not have turned into a zombie.

The Voodoo Demon's methods were useless against him.

But Qin Hao's methods were more than it could endure.

He stomped the ground, his speed surging violently. Every zombie that tried to block him was smashed to pieces by a single punch.

Very quickly, he reached the Voodoo Demon's side.

Hatred and malice filled the Voodoo Demon's eyes. The hump-like growth on its back suddenly burst open, and a tide of poison rushed toward Qin Hao.

Qin Hao's psychic force moved sharply, and the temperature around him plummeted.

The venom that had been spewing forth was actually frozen solid by that terrifying cold in an instant. Then the freezing spread continuously, until even the Voodoo Demon itself had become an ice sculpture.

"Explode."

Qin Hao softly uttered the brief syllable. The next instant, the Voodoo Demon's body blew apart, blood spraying everywhere.

The force of the explosion also killed over a hundred zombies nearby.

With the Voodoo Demon gone, the zombies were no longer controlled, but they did not flee. Fresh flesh still drew them on.

That flesh was, of course, Qin Hao and Zi Hui.

Especially Qin Hao. With his abundant life force, to the zombies' sense of smell he was nothing short of a sweet and sumptuous feast.

In Qin Hao's eyes, however, these zombies had only one end: to be turned to ash.

Qin Hao began the slaughter.

By then, more heroes who had received emergency orders had arrived at the scene, and they were greeted by a shocking sight.

Zi Hui continuously released golden radiance. The zombies, shrieking, fell to the ground, their bodies blackening as if they had been scorched beyond recognition.

On the other side, more than a hundred long swords circled around Qin Hao. Wherever they passed, zombie heads were severed from their bodies, and the corpses collapsed to the ground.

"What... what is going on? Why are there so many zombies? Where did all these people come from?"

The heroes who had rushed here to halt the zombie army were stunned by the scene before them. They could see nothing but dense ranks of zombies, packed shoulder to shoulder on the highway, more crowded than the New Year travel rush.

Someone swallowed hard and said, "Could all these people be from the Northern Base? Where are their heroes?"

Yuan Xingcan was also among the crowd. Hearing that man's words, he gave a cold laugh.

"The heroes of the Northern Base? They're all dead. They were too clever for their own good, and that was their undoing."

The newly promoted heroes were instantly alarmed at Yuan Xingcan's words.

"All dead? That can't be right."

The man's disbelief was only an instinctive reaction, but he had already realized that Yuan Xingcan's words might well be true.

The Northern Survivor Base no longer existed in anything but name.
