Over the past dozen days, Fang Yujia felt she had shed more tears than she had in the past twenty years combined. This change left her both uneasy and irresistibly drawn in; perhaps this period of her life was richer than all those years before. She had cried, rejoiced, grieved, and been deeply moved—this was true living, wasn’t it wonderful?

Carrying a bowl of rice back to the table, her expression had returned to normal. Fang Yujia poured a full glass of wine for Xiao Cheng and filled her own cup. Raising her glass solemnly, she said, “Thank you.”

Before Xiao Cheng could reply, she tilted her neck back and drained her cup in one gulp. Except for the first sip, which was a bit harsh and spicy, the rest went down smoothly. She was beginning to think that liquor was a special drink—drinking baijiu made her feel more relaxed and uninhibited.

Xiao Cheng was puzzled when he heard his sister-in-law say thank you. His previous words had been commanding, without consulting her at all; she should have been offended. He thought, “A woman’s heart is as unfathomable as the vast sea,” then raised his glass and emptied it in one swallow.

That was his fifth glass—at least two and a half jin of liquor, fifty-proof Maotai with a strong afterburner. As the warmth spread through his body, he felt lightheaded. His already exhausted mind grew hazy under the influence of alcohol. Seeing that Yu’er, his sister-in-law, showed no signs of intoxication, he suddenly felt she possessed an unfathomable depth.

Unlike him, who had only drunk a little, Fang Yujia had consumed at least twice as much baijiu. Even a body refined through foundational cultivation would struggle to handle it. Yet she showed no drunkenness; on the contrary, she appeared more spirited and radiant, the fatigue wiped away.

After the meal, Xiao Cheng sat dizzily on the sofa and switched on the television, flipping to a news channel.

Fang Yujia finished tidying up the table and chairs, then went to the bathroom.

She hung her underwear on a hook, slipped off her skirt and bra, revealing her fair, delicate, and alluring figure. Turning on the shower, a mist of hot steam enveloped her slender frame.

After about twenty minutes, she finally felt much clearer-headed. She turned off the water, dressed in her undergarments and skirt, but hesitated when she saw her soaked underwear. It had been accidentally wetted, and she had no fresh pair prepared to change into.

After a moment’s deliberation, she shook her head—better to go without than wear something drenched.

Fang Yujia stepped out of the bathroom in her skirt, feeling a cool breeze below where she was bare, which was both refreshing and slightly uncomfortable.

Entering the living room, she was surprised to find her younger brother-in-law engrossed in the news. That was odd; he had never been interested in such “boring” things before. Then again, she realized how little she truly understood him, which explained her many past misunderstandings.

Xiao Cheng looked up and saw his sister-in-law fresh from her bath, her damp hair cascading down her back, her whole body shimmering with a glistening radiance. He was momentarily stunned.

For some reason, he sensed something different about her today. Though he couldn’t quite put his finger on it, she seemed more vibrant and alive, far less rigid than before.

He shook his head, trying to dispel the hazy feeling but to no avail.

“What’s wrong? Drunk?” Fang Yujia smiled softly, two dimples appearing on her slightly rounded cheeks.

Xiao Cheng was taken aback by the discovery—it was the first time he’d noticed his sister-in-law had dimples.

“A little,” he admitted. “But Yu’er, when did you get such a good tolerance? I’ve never seen you drink before.”

Fang Yujia, naturally reserved, smiled briefly before her pale face returned to calm.

His question made her frown slightly—she found it strange herself. Despite drinking so much, she only felt warmth spreading through her body; there was no trace of drunkenness.

“Maybe it’s just natural. This is my first time drinking.”

The two sat on the sofa, watching television and chatting idly about various matters—family affairs, company personnel changes, and so on. Fang Yujia’s view of Xiao Cheng had changed greatly; their conversation flowed easily, and they found themselves surprisingly compatible.

Xiao Cheng savored this long-lost warmth, overwhelmed with emotion. Just two months ago, he had been hunted by countless enemies. Now, he sat beside his deceased sister-in-law, talking, breathing in her familiar scent, basking in comfort. It all felt surreal.

Perhaps from exhaustion, the soothing atmosphere, or the alcohol’s influence, Xiao Cheng’s eyelids grew heavy, his vision blurred, and before he knew it, he had fallen asleep without warning.

It was both sad and remarkable—this was the first time he had truly slept since his rebirth.

Since returning to life, all his time was spent either cultivating to increase his strength or rushing between relatives. He had never had a moment’s rest, and sleep was a luxury he had long since abandoned. He had to fight with all his might for the future.

Sleep? He had long given that up!

Fang Yujia had been discussing the recent conflict in the East China Sea with Xiao Cheng, but when he didn’t respond for a long while, she turned to look and saw him fast asleep, eyes closed deeply.

He sat on the sofa, and as he lost all strength, he slowly slid down, resting his head on Fang Yujia’s lap.

Feeling the strong scent of alcohol and masculine warmth from him, Fang Yujia shivered all over.

She was extremely fastidious, and this was her first time being so close to a man.

Moreover, she had just bathed and wasn’t wearing any underwear. Xiao Cheng’s head was lying right over her most sensitive area, separated only by a thin layer of fabric. His warm breath easily passed through her skirt, making her feel as if countless ants were crawling over her skin—an unbearable tingling itch.

Although she had come to see him in a new light recently, he was still a man, and their current position was too intimate. Her breath quickened involuntarily.
