Chapter 25: A Target for Blades
Outside Misty Rain Pavilion, in the smaller building nearby, Liu Man and Su Momo were quietly enjoying their tea. Suddenly, they saw countless people fleeing from Misty Rain Pavilion in terror, and their expressions changed at once. The two exchanged a glance, left money for their tea, and leapt out of the window, running straight toward the commotion at the pavilion.
Though they had no idea what trouble had befallen the Misty Rain Pavilion, as long as Qin Lang was not harmed, they considered it none of their concern and had no intention of interfering.
Bang—
When the two arrived at the entrance, a corpse, armored to the teeth, covered in knife wounds and mangled flesh, cold as stone, was hurled through the doors and windows like a bowling ball. On closer inspection, it was one of the pavilion’s formidable guards—now hacked to death.
Realizing something was amiss, both Liu Man and Su Momo’s faces darkened. Each drew their magical weapons: Liu Man’s was a razor-sharp double-bladed axe, while Su Momo wielded a blood-red longsword.
“Wait, sir, we don’t even know each other—why are you coming after me with a blade? Besides, I’m just an ordinary man. Surely a figure as important as you wouldn’t bother to hunt down someone like me.”
Qin Lang was exasperated as he watched the burly, grim-faced middle-aged man pursuing him relentlessly, sending Wang Zimo and the others flying with a series of powerful kicks. The front entrance was too packed, so Qin Lang could only flee within the pavilion, hoping to delay the man until the powerful Liu Man arrived to help.
Meanwhile, up above, Tian Hui, who had been in the midst of a romantic tryst, heard the fierce battle below. He hurriedly pulled on his trousers and rushed downstairs to see what was happening. When he reached the second floor, the scene below was one of chaos and bloodshed, but it was the figure of the Berserker Immortal that instantly drew his gaze.
“Berserker Immortal—”
“How could a Berserker Immortal be here?”
Suddenly, he heard a familiar voice. Looking over, he saw Qin Lang desperately dodging the Berserker Immortal’s furious attacks in a panic.
“Brother Qin—!”
At the sight, Tian Hui’s face darkened. “Damn it! You dare attack my brother? I’ll kill you for this!”
No sooner had he spoken than Tian Hui drew a massive sword from his interspatial ring, leapt into the air, and brought it crashing down on the Berserker Immortal.
Boom!
The burly man staggered back under the heavy blow, while Tian Hui’s expression turned grim, his hands numb from the impact. Not only had his opponent withstood the full force of his strike, but the counter-force was so great that Tian Hui could barely keep hold of his weapon.
---
Tian Hui’s eyes never left the burly figure before him, his face grave. “Brother Qin, are you all right?”
Panting heavily, Qin Lang forced a smile and waved weakly. “I’m all right, thanks to your timely arrival, Brother Tian. If you’d come any later, that brute would have chopped me into pieces.”
“As long as you’re safe.” Confirming Qin Lang was unharmed, Tian Hui turned his wary gaze on the Berserker Immortal, confusion in his heart. “Brother Qin, how did you end up provoking a Berserker Immortal? And such a terrifying one at that!”
Qin Lang gave a bitter, helpless smile. “Brother Tian, look at me—do I seem like someone who could provoke such a powerful figure?”
“So you didn’t anger him? Then why is he chasing you?” Tian Hui was just as puzzled.
“I have no idea. The moment he arrived, he came straight for me. The four beauties who were drinking with me and Brother Hua were all chopped to pieces by him!”
Swish—
Before Tian Hui could respond, the Berserker Immortal swept forward, blade flashing with murderous intent so fierce it threatened to swallow them whole.
“Nascent Soul stage—” As he sensed the terrifying killing intent and overwhelming power, Tian Hui’s heart leapt. His own cultivation was only at the mid-Nascent Soul stage, but this foe was in the Soul Transformation stage. Whatever his exact level, this would be no easy battle.
Glancing at Hua Manlou and the others, who were struggling to rise from the bloodied floor, Tian Hui’s face was grim. “Everyone, this is a Soul Transformation stage Berserker Immortal. We’ll have to join forces if we hope to survive.”
“Brother Qin, as soon as we start fighting, you must escape. Run as far as you can and don’t look back.”
No sooner had he finished speaking than Tian Hui charged with his great sword, and Hua Manlou and the others, refusing to be outdone, gripped their weapons and attacked the burly man, faces cold and resolute.
Lin Xian, in particular, burned with fury, her fiery whip lashing out like a venomous serpent.
Despite facing four Nascent Soul experts at once, the burly man showed no fear. With his right hand gripping his Tang blade, he unleashed a storm of wind and steel.
The four, grim-faced and determined, fought with all their might, refusing to retreat a single step. No matter how strong he was, they had the advantage in numbers.
---
Taking in the chaotic battle behind him, Qin Lang didn’t hesitate—he turned and ran as fast as he could. The Misty Rain Pavilion was no longer safe; only by fleeing could he hope to survive.
Just as he was about to cross the threshold and make his escape, Liu Man and Su Momo burst in. Seeing them, Qin Lang was overjoyed and rushed over, embracing them like a drowning man grasping a lifeline.
“Brother Liu, you’re finally here! If you’d come any later, I’d have been a goner.”
Liu Man’s expression turned somber as he glanced at Qin Lang and then at the fierce battle not far away. “Brother Qin, what’s going on? Why is there a Berserker Immortal here?”
“It’s a long story,” Qin Lang replied with a wry smile. “I have no idea why he’s here, but I am his target.”
At these words, Liu Man and Su Momo’s expressions shifted, their eyes narrowing suspiciously. If he was the target, someone must have set the Berserker Immortal on him. Could it be a human? No, no human would dare. Was it the demon clan? That was very possible—after all, the demon clan would love nothing more than to see Qin Lang torn to pieces. The likelihood that they had sent the Berserker Immortal to hunt him was high.
But how had the demons managed to get a Berserker Immortal into Mutian City?
“Momo, you protect Brother Qin. I’ll go join the fight.”
With those words, Liu Man gripped his double-bladed axe, his aura surging, and rushed into the fray. He had no idea why a Berserker Immortal had entered the city, but since Qin Lang was the target, it meant the demons had begun their move.
“Hurry, everyone, pick up the pace!” The commander of Mutian City’s garrison, upon learning of the Berserker Immortal’s appearance, immediately led a hundred elite soldiers to the Misty Rain Pavilion, his heart filled with urgency. He wished he could fly there, but the city’s Golden Sky Formation made flight impossible, so they pressed on as quickly as their feet could carry them.
At the head of the unit strode a man in black battle armor, his expression cold, his aura fierce. He muttered under his breath, “Let’s hope the casualties aren’t too great, or I’ll be losing my head for sure.”
