Chapter 14 Liu Man’s Scheme
“Brother Liu, is there any way to find that enchantress now?” After a moment of silence, Qin Lang fixed his gaze intently on Liu Man before him.
His concern was straightforward: he wanted to enter the Immortal Martial Academy to learn more about the world of cultivation. Wu Li had told him much, letting him glimpse many unknowns, but all that was just skimming the surface. Besides, he still had to fulfill the last wish of his previous life’s grandfather: to go to the Immortal Martial Academy and seek the origins of his former incarnation.
Though he truly had no inclination to meddle in this business, much less to be burdened by some old wish, having taken over another’s body left him with no choice but to seek answers.
“There is a way, but you’ll have to step forward yourself.” Liu Man’s eyes turned to Qin Lang. “You’re the executioner who slew the Prince of Pingnan; in your mind must reside memories of the prince’s plots with the demons. Unless they kill you, they’ll never feel at ease.”
Now, Liu Man finally understood why Wang Kai had insisted they bring Qin Lang here—it was to use him as bait to lure out the enchantress.
By rights, Qin Lang should have inherited the memories of Liu An, the Prince of Pingnan, but something was different about him. After decapitating others, he seemed unable to absorb their memories, as if his body instinctively rejected them. Thus, they had no choice but to capture the enchantress themselves.
After a pause, Qin Lang murmured, “What do you need me to do? How am I to draw the enchantress out? And who among you will be responsible for my safety?”
“I want you to visit the Misty Rain Pavilion and spend lavishly there to attract the enchantress. As for your protection, Hua Manlou and Wang Zimo will guard you. Mo Mo and I will be outside, ready to support you at any moment.”
The demon clan knew nothing of Qin Lang’s unique abilities, and this was why Liu Man chose this risky ploy—to lure out the enchantress. As long as Qin Lang played the part of a lecher and appeared before the public, the demon clan would stop at nothing to approach and eliminate him. Only with his death could they proceed with their plans in peace.
Visit the Misty Rain Pavilion?!
Before Qin Lang could react, Hua Manlou’s eyes shone bright, and he looked at Liu Man in disbelief. “Brother Liu, is it true? Can Brother Qin and I really go to the Misty Rain Pavilion?”
He had always visited such places in secret, never expecting Liu Man to approve openly this time, which was almost beyond belief.
Seeing his excitement, Liu Man’s face twitched. “It’s for the sake of work—you’ll have to sacrifice a bit of your flesh. But don’t forget your mission. Don’t get so caught up riding women that you neglect the task at hand.”
Hua Manlou was good at everything—with one glaring flaw: he thought of nothing but women. The moment he saw a beautiful lady, he’d turn into the perfect gentleman and immediately try to flirt.
Pat! Pat!
Clapping his chest, Hua Manlou swore, “Brother Liu, rest assured, we absolutely won’t neglect our duty.”
Liu Man only shook his head, turning to Wang Zimo. “Zimo, starting tomorrow night at the Misty Rain Pavilion, keep a close watch on them—especially Hua Manlou. Don’t let him get too carried away.”
Wang Zimo, though fond of dressing as a woman, was always serious and never distracted from the task. Compared to Hua Manlou, Liu Man put his trust in Wang Zimo—after all, Hua Manlou’s mind was filled with nothing but women.
Wang Zimo glanced at Hua Manlou. “What if he refuses to obey orders?”
Liu Man flashed an evil grin. “Just report to me, and I’ll inform the boss. As for his punishment, the boss will decide.”
Catching their gaze, Hua Manlou swallowed hard. This time, he really wouldn’t be able to play around. If Wang Kai found out he was only chasing women and ignoring the mission, he’d be lucky to escape with his life, let alone his skin.
“Brother Qin, whether we can capture the enchantress depends on whether you can draw her in. If you fail, we’ll all face severe punishment.”
Qin Lang: “…”
…
The next morning, Qin Lang was up early, scouring the place for food, but after a whole morning’s search, he found nothing. With no other choice, he headed to Hua Manlou’s quarters and knocked loudly, “Brother Hua, get up! The sun is already high, how are you still asleep?”
After waiting a while without any response, Qin Lang’s face darkened, annoyance welling up inside. He seriously suspected Hua Manlou was a fake cultivator—how could a true immortal sleep like this? Any powerful cultivator could go without sleep for long periods, yet Hua Manlou slept so soundly it made one wonder if he was really a cultivator at all.
After a moment’s thought, a sly smile played at Qin Lang’s lips as he cleared his throat. “Brother Hua, I brought two lovely girls. Want to come out and pick one? If you don’t need them…”
Bang!
He hadn’t finished speaking when the door suddenly flew open. Out stumbled Hua Manlou, hair a tangled mess, looking neither quite human nor quite ghost.
“Ghost!” The sight startled Qin Lang out of his wits, but as he recovered, he stared at Hua Manlou with an exasperated expression.
Hua Manlou glanced around, muttering, “Where are the girls? Where are they? Brother Qin, where are the girls you brought?”
Qin Lang was left speechless, dark lines appearing on his forehead. “Really, Brother Hua? Is there nothing in your head but women? Can’t you think about anything else?”
“Why should I think of anything else?” Hua Manlou replied, genuinely perplexed. “Can you eat it? Will it satisfy the body?”
Qin Lang: “…”
When he realized there were no beautiful women, Hua Manlou’s face darkened. “You’re really something—waking me up with such a dirty trick.”
“Brother Hua, you can’t say that. I called you several times and you didn’t wake up, so I had no choice but to try this.” Qin Lang denied everything, flatly refusing to admit any underhandedness.
“But really, why do you look so ghastly?”
Hua Manlou’s appearance was like someone sneaking out at night to meet a lover—no, more like sneaking out to find a beauty and coming back a mess.
Waving a hand, Hua Manlou said, “I haven’t slept for days. Last night, I finally took the chance to rest, and now I’m in this state.”
“Brother Qin, coming to find me so early—what do you want?”
