Chapter 20: Care to Draw a Card?
After purchasing the items she wanted, Qin Yueyan teleported back home.
Although it was time to clean, she didn’t have to lift a finger—after all, she now possessed magical powers.
With a simple cleaning spell, everything sparkled spotless, even the nooks and crannies, something she could hardly achieve by hand.
Qin Yueyan placed her hands on her hips, admiring the bright and tidy ground floor. “Next, let’s set up the shelves. Let me check the marketplace first; it’d be better to save money.”
She searched for fruit and vegetable shelves, and an array of dazzling options appeared before her, overwhelming her senses.
“Hmm... items stay exactly as they are when placed inside, and the time inside is frozen...”
“That’s just like the spatial bracelet, or the island’s warehouse,” Qin Yueyan mused, intrigued by the idea. Glancing at the price, she found it to be five thousand points. “Not bad, not expensive.”
She felt a little indulgent; five thousand points didn’t seem like much at all.
Continuing her search, she discovered combination sets, which were more cost-effective than individual purchases.
Without hesitation, she spent thirty thousand points on a combo set.
After bringing the shelves out and arranging them neatly, Qin Yueyan’s spirits soared.
“The beginner discount ends just after the National Day holiday, so I’ll open the shop during the holiday—it’s bound to attract more tourists,” she hummed happily as she bought a small price tag and generated a payment QR code.
Fifteen points was nothing to her now, a mere drop in the bucket.
“Oh, right!” she patted her head. “I need to arrange the signboard as well.”
Buying ordinary items was cheap—just thirty points for a pre-lettered sign.
“A fruit and vegetable shop! To carry on the spirit of the ‘Inn’,” Qin Yueyan smiled in satisfaction—not because she struggled with naming shops, but because it felt fitting.
As for the sign, she planned to hang it quietly under the cover of night.
Opening the island’s warehouse, she inventoried her current fruits and wrote the prices on the tags.
Large fruits were priced individually: watermelons at a thousand each, durians three thousand, hami melons fifteen hundred, and all other fruits at six hundred sixty-six per pound.
It made sense to her—some fruits could cost several thousand or even tens of thousands elsewhere. Hers, imbued with spiritual energy, would be nourishing and delicious beyond compare!
And the flavor would be exceptional!
She gradually listed about a dozen or so types of fruit she had grown. Given limited space, that was plenty.
As for vegetables, she decided to set a flat rate of six hundred points per pound, regardless of type.
After setting the prices, Qin Yueyan scratched her head. Although her fruits and vegetables were larger, tastier, and more nutritious than outside, she had no reputation or fame!
“Putting myself in customers’ shoes, if I saw these prices, I wouldn’t want to buy either...” she muttered. “But I’m poor myself.”
Frustrated, she hesitated before finally deciding, “Maybe a discount for the first three days?”
“Alright, but how much? Twenty percent off?”
“Eh, maybe someone rebellious will want to try these pricey fruits and veggies anyway?”
“Forget it, I won’t overthink it. Even if no one buys anything, I won’t starve.”
She created a banner announcing a twenty-percent discount for the first three days, ready to hang it up later.
Returning to the island, Huhu eagerly greeted her. “No one came while you were gone.”
“Without navigation, it’s all a matter of fate,” Qin Yueyan replied calmly. “The upgrade came with dessert and drink recipes. I plan to unlock them; want to join me?”
Huhu scratched the ground sadly with its little paws. “No thanks, I can’t eat those.”
Qin Yueyan crouched to pinch its ears. “Alright, I’m off to the kitchen.”
Mango pomelo sago, bubble tea, chocolate cake, cream puffs...
Having a large space and magic was wonderful; some ingredients could be processed directly with spells.
She only needed to infuse energy at the end to produce enhanced, buffed foods, fresh from the oven!
Holding a cup of bubble tea, Qin Yueyan took a sip, closing her eyes in bliss.
“I even feel like my little shop could sell more than just fruits and vegetables,” she thought. Who would’ve guessed? It was truly delicious, an overwhelming sense of happiness filling her.
But she quickly dismissed the idea. “I can’t generate things automatically outside; it all has to be done manually. Maybe next time.”
She made a crying face and glanced at Huhu, who had stayed by her side. “Huhu, am I really that lazy?”
“No way! You’re the best!” Huhu raised its paw in a fist pump.
Qin Yueyan laughed softly at the little creature’s antics, her expression gentle. “Well, it doesn’t really matter. Things are pretty good like this.”
...
Under the dark, windy, and quiet night, it was the perfect time to hang the sign.
Sneaking out, Qin Yueyan looked at the old, dust-covered sign with a trace of nostalgia in her eyes.
Pressing her lips together, she packed away the old sign, cleaned the store front and surrounding area with a cleaning spell, and hung up the new sign.
After checking from every angle and finding no faults, she returned to the island to continue her training.
The next morning, after finishing her run, Qin Yueyan found Grandma Li staring at the sign she had hung.
“Good morning, Grandma Li.”
Dressed in sportswear, her face flushed with a healthy glow from exercise.
“Xiao Yan...” Grandma Li hesitated. “Are you reopening the shop?”
“Yes,” Qin Yueyan answered confidently. “It’s hard to find work, and since there’s a scenic spot nearby, I thought I’d reopen the fruit and vegetable store.”
How long she’d keep it open, she didn’t know.
Grandma Li smiled warmly, repeating, “Good, good, that’s great. Running your own shop is nice.” She teased, “Looks like you’ll be a little boss from now on.”
“Absolutely.” Qin Yueyan lifted her chin proudly. “When it opens, I’ll bring you some fruits and vegetables.”
Grandma Li chuckled. “No need. You’ve had a hard time already.”
For some reason, a flicker of pain and pity appeared in her eyes.
“Oh, yes, yes,” Qin Yueyan said cheerfully.
“You kid...” Grandma Li shook her head and changed the subject, chatting for a while before heading off for her walk.
Qin Yueyan sighed, “Old folks really have energy. If I weren’t practicing cultivation, I wouldn’t get up this early.”
Turning back inside, she went through the back door to return to the immortal island.
Busy with daily tasks until nine o’clock, she finally sat down for breakfast.
While eating, she opened the card-drawing interface—she couldn’t resist when she had points.
After a serious prayer, she performed a ten-card draw.
The interface flashed, revealing ten cards.
Qin Yueyan flipped them over one by one, receiving:
- Recipe: Buddha Jumps Over the Wall *1
- Tropical-themed furniture *2
- Common furniture *5
- Fortune elixir *1
Her eyes widened. “Wow!” she exclaimed excitedly to Huhu, “Look! A golden card!”
“Xiao Yan’s luck is amazing,” Huhu admired.
“Hehe, but this looks familiar.” Qin Yueyan studied the small bottle filled with golden liquid. After a moment’s thought, she exclaimed, “Isn’t this a potion from Harry Potter? Does your card pool really have everything?!”
Huhu blinked its big round eyes. “Yep.”
Qin Yueyan was speechless.
Hopefully, she wouldn’t start drawing things that didn’t exist in the real world.
With that thought, what was supposed to be just a test draw suddenly made her even more eager to try her luck.
Curious about what other magical treasures she might pull, she opened the last card.
Recipe: Happy Jumping Fish Soup *1
Qin Yueyan blinked in confusion.
What was this? A recipe? Did such a dish exist?
