Chapter 53: The Furious Su Meiqin

Not to mention, she had just spoken up on behalf of those two, and yet not only did they fail to show gratitude, they even tried to harm her. It made her previous actions seem, as that person had said, truly foolish.

For the first time in her life, Su Meiqin was furious. After reversing Zhang Qiang’s attack, she showed no mercy, dislocating his arm and snatching the dagger from his hand. Without hesitation, she plunged the blade hard toward his neck.

A sickening sound followed as the knife sank into flesh, halted only by the system’s intervention. Still, the blow had nearly drained Zhang Qiang’s life. Su Meiqin didn’t pause—her next strike pierced straight through his temple, leaving Zhang Qiang’s eyes wide in death, as if unable to believe he’d been killed by a woman.

Su Meiqin had slain many criminals before, so she felt nothing unusual now. She raised her head and looked coldly at Zhang Hao. Her beautiful face was frosted with chill, a few drops of blood spattered on her, making her appear eerily captivating.

Zhang Hao was stunned after witnessing his brother’s death. Despite all his previous bravado, he had never killed anyone—never even seen a killing. The woman before him was terrifying. His formidable brother had been slaughtered like a chick, unable to resist at all.

“Don’t come any closer!” Zhang Hao staggered, brandishing his dagger and trying to look fierce, as if it were the only way to feel safe.

Kong Zhe watched the scene, stepped forward, struck Zhang Hao’s wrist, and seized the dagger as it fell. He then kicked Zhang Hao in the chest, sending him flying.

With the dagger in hand, Kong Zhe quickly checked its attributes, confirming it matched the data from his previous life.

“Ah! Murder!” Cries of alarm echoed throughout the hall. Clearly, Zhang Qiang’s brutal death had terrified them. These successful people had never seen such violence; they stared at Su Meiqin in horror, unable to believe how ruthless she was. The girls who had previously shouted at her were now sobbing in fear, worried she would come for them next.

Kong Zhe ignored the crowd, turning to Su Meiqin, who stood with a complicated expression, gazing at the empty space.

Just as he was about to speak, sudden laughter broke out.

“Haha! You killed my brother—I won’t let you get away with it! Sure, I can’t beat you, but I can drag you down with me!”

Not far off, Zhang Hao lay on the ground, laughing madly, red light blazing in his eyes. He then sprang up and rushed toward the window.

Kong Zhe frowned, flicking the dagger in his hand toward Zhang Hao like a flying knife.

As Zhang Hao ran, he glimpsed the incoming dagger out of the corner of his eye, knowing he couldn’t dodge it. With a crazed look toward the window just a few meters away, he shouted, “Ha! Let the monsters devour you!”

He drew his security baton from his belt, mustering his last strength to smash the window.

With a crash and a clang, the baton shattered the glass loudly. Simultaneously, the flying knife struck Zhang Hao in the chest from behind.

He collapsed, listening to the monsters’ roars from below. Convinced he’d dragged everyone down with him, he left the world with a satisfied smile.

Killing Zhang Hao gave Kong Zhe a huge surge in experience, enough to level up past four.

But Kong Zhe had no time to pay attention to that. Pulling the dagger from Zhang Hao’s body, he strode to the window and looked down.

Downstairs, the monster horde had grown restless from the commotion. They surged toward the mall entrance, and the doors, unable to withstand such force, quickly gave way. Glass shattered, and monsters poured in, racing upstairs.

Even on the fifth floor, Kong Zhe and the others could feel the tremors from below.

Kong Zhe frowned, hurried to the fifth-floor entrance, locked the door, then pushed nearby tables against it.

“Ah!” The crowd in the hall, realizing what was happening, screamed in terror at the approaching roars, though soon their mouths were covered. Everyone knew shouting would only attract the monsters faster.

A few quick thinkers joined Kong Zhe in barricading the door; seeing this, the others hurried to help, stacking tables and chairs.

Soon, the entrance was secured with several layers of furniture.

Almost immediately, a loud bang signaled the monsters’ assault on the door. Continuous crashes and howls echoed as everyone retreated, nervously watching the door, fearing the monsters would burst through any second.

Everyone trembled, gripped by the fear of death; some women were so terrified they lost control, their faces streaked with tears and mucus.

With the relentless battering, the door began to shake; soon, its connection to the wall loosened.

Kong Zhe stopped watching, instead pulling Xiao Lei over to Su Meiqin and tapping her shoulder.

“We need to go.”

He had achieved all three objectives on the fifth floor, so there was no reason to stay.

“Oh... huh?” Su Meiqin, startled from her daze, responded, then asked anxiously, “What about them? Are we just going to leave them behind?”

“Go!” Kong Zhe replied firmly, leading Xiao Lei toward the rooftop passage.

Su Meiqin hesitated, biting her lip, but ultimately said nothing and hurried after them.

The crowd watched in surprise, but a few clear-headed ones quickly followed. Anyone not foolish could see the door wouldn’t hold—only by following the three could they survive.

The rest, prompted by the leaders, rushed desperately into the passage.

With a kick, Kong Zhe opened the rooftop door, returning to the top of the building. He quickly checked the surroundings for safety, then began clearing the snow from the path to the broken bridge.

Su Meiqin, seeing the rooftop, guessed Kong Zhe’s plan and helped clear the snow from the bridge.

“Xiao Lei, climb on!” Kong Zhe crouched down. With the memory of his previous life, Xiao Lei didn’t hesitate and climbed onto his back.

Footsteps sounded behind them as the hall crowd reached the rooftop. Seeing the scene, they immediately understood what Kong Zhe intended.

“Sir, please save us, you can’t leave us behind!” one pleaded.

Others chimed in, “Yes! We were fine until your conflict with the Zhang brothers dragged us into this!”

“That’s right, you mustn’t be so irresponsible!”

Kong Zhe sneered, not bothering to argue, and focused on fastening Xiao Lei securely to his back with a rope.

Two girls, seeing his indifference, rushed forward, grabbing his clothes and begging, “Brother, we’ll do anything, please save us!”

“Get lost!” Kong Zhe glared at them.

He wasn’t the type to lose his head over women, only to bring trouble upon himself.

The little dog cooperated, baring its teeth at them.

Startled, the girls quickly backed away.

With the dog guarding him, no one dared approach.

Kong Zhe snorted, walking toward Su Meiqin.

“Hey, silly girl, get ready—we’re jumping!”

He found her unresponsive, still in a daze.

“Hey, silly girl, hey... snap out of it!”

He waved, calling several times before she awoke.

“Huh?” Su Meiqin looked up blankly, “You called me?”

“Come on, what were you thinking? I called you several times!” Kong Zhe eyed her, puzzled—she seemed nothing like the legendary gun queen now.

Shaking his head, he said, “I said, get ready—we’re jumping, silly girl!”

“Oh...” she replied, then suddenly protested, “Who are you calling silly? Don’t call me that!”

Seeing her spirits return, Kong Zhe felt relieved and teased, “Of course it’s you! I’ve never seen a woman as clueless as you.”

Su Meiqin puffed her cheeks, wanting to retort, but recalling something, she sighed and lost interest in arguing, hesitantly saying, “I... I want to leave for a while...”

“Oh?” Kong Zhe was surprised.

Su Meiqin quickly explained, “Not forever—just to handle something about my former subordinates. I want to go back and check on them, and I’ll return soon once it’s settled.”

“I see...” Kong Zhe stroked his chin, thinking. His original plan was to go to the city center with Su Meiqin; with both being powerful awakened ones, they could support each other, making them invincible at this stage.
