When Wu Bei saw the warehouse as large as half a soccer field, he finally realized just how understated Su Qing had been when she called it a “vegetable shop.”

Inside the vast warehouse, more than ten small trucks were parked, each flanked by two or three workers bustling with energy as they loaded and unloaded vegetables and fruits.

“Qingqing’s friend, you must be Xiao Wu, right?”

As Wu Bei looked around, a dark-skinned man in his thirties approached and asked.

Wu Bei nodded. “I’m Wu Bei.”

The man smiled. “Qingqing told me about you. We pay daily here. Each truckload of vegetables earns you 150 yuan. The more you work, the more you earn. If you have the time, making 1,800 yuan in a day isn’t hard.”

“Thank you, big brother!” Wu Bei bowed deeply with heartfelt gratitude.

“Shunzi, take the new brother under your wing!”

Without wasting words, the man called out to a young man nearby who was carrying a large cabbage.

The youth was tall and thin, with a crew cut and a round face. His bare upper body was as solid as a steel plate. He seemed taciturn but smiled humbly at Wu Bei before lowering his head to lift another sack of vegetables.

Wu Bei imitated him and began to work.

Throughout the process, they barely exchanged words. Only after they had filled the truck bed did the young man signal Wu Bei to take a break.

Wu Bei pulled out a cigarette and handed one over, smiling as he asked, “Brother Shun, is that 150 yuan what we get to take home?”

“It’s not that simple. We still have to unload the vegetables for the buyer,” the young man wiped the sweat from his forehead and said, “These vegetables are for the canteen of Aoxue Group. If you can drive, you’ll earn an extra fifty!”

“To where?”

The cigarette slipped from Wu Bei’s mouth and fell to the ground. His mouth dropped open in shock...

Aoxue Group was the company owned by his stepmother, Luo Xue.

Despite his mixed feelings, Wu Bei got into the truck.

It was only his first day. He didn’t want to cause trouble for Su Qing or seem inexperienced, and above all, he believed he wouldn’t run into Luo Xue.

It was just six-thirty in the morning. Normally, the company’s management wouldn’t have started work yet, and only the upper echelons of Aoxue Group would know him.

Inside the truck, Wu Bei offered another cigarette and asked, “Brother Shun, have you always been the one delivering vegetables to Aoxue Group?”

“I’ve only been at this a little over two months. Call me Shunzi or Wang Shun. I’m probably younger than you.”

“Calling you brother’s no problem. I’m half a head shorter than you when I go out.”

As they chatted casually, the two arrived at Aoxue Group.

The company canteen was on the ground floor. Wang Shun parked the truck at the back entrance and gestured for Wu Bei to start.

Looking at the lavish canteen, Wu Bei’s feelings were complicated.

He often ate here during school days when the company was still called Shihao Group. Back then, everyone treated him with courtesy. Now, everything had changed.

“Wipe the tables clean and throw away the potted plants. Miss Nianxia is allergic to pollen!”

At that moment, a noisy commotion rose.

Accompanied by the clicking of high heels, a large group entered the canteen, led by none other than Wu Bei’s stepmother, Luo Xue.

Not only Luo Xue, but Wei Ge—the crew-cut man who had caused trouble for Wu Bei yesterday—was there too.

Luo Xue wore a black dress. Her delicate features were etched with anxiety. Wei Ge yawned incessantly, following her like a servile eunuch, gesturing and signaling.

Seeing the two, Wu Bei cursed his luck silently and quickly turned away.

“Hey, you two! Arrange the tables properly! Can’t you make General Manager Luo worry less?”

Wei Ge pointed at Wang Shun and Wu Bei, barking orders.

Wang Shun explained, “Boss, we’re just the vegetable delivery guys.”

“So what if you deliver vegetables? Don’t you want to help out? Do you know how much we spend at your Su family’s vegetable shop every year? Believe me, I’ll make one call and have you fired!”
