Everyone was still trying to grasp how she planned to summon reinforcements. Jiang Yao was also conflicted in her mind. So far, she had only unlocked the Qing Dynasty, and the summoning skill supposedly allowed calling forth only one figure at a time. Among the people she knew, who could handle the current situation? For a moment, no suitable candidate came to mind. But with zombies closing in fast, she had no choice but to risk it all. Resolute, Jiang Yao let a random name surface in her mind and anxiously awaited the outcome.

Suddenly, a mist had quietly risen around them. Within its hazy veil appeared numerous vague silhouettes. Ji Yuanyuan gasped in surprise and then burst into joy. “Yao Yao, is your skill really this powerful? You can summon so many helpers at once!” Xiang Yu’s face lit up with delight. “Great! We’re saved!”

A rough count showed their numbers nearly matched the zombies’. Jiang Yao was equally astonished. Hadn’t the system said only one could be summoned at a time? Yet now was not the time for confusion. She forced a dry laugh. “Ah… it’s nothing. This is my first time using this skill; didn’t expect it to be so practical!”

“Wait a minute.” Xie Huaili narrowed his eyes, suspicion creasing his brow. “Why do these people seem... off?” His remark drew everyone’s gaze. Dou Zimo frowned, muttering to himself, “Yeah, why are they walking by hopping? Even ancient people didn’t have such strange habits, right?”

As they spoke, a chilling realization dawned upon them. Xie Huaili’s expression turned ambiguous. “Look closer. Aren’t they still wearing Qing Dynasty official robes?”

Ji Yuanyuan’s eyes widened. “They really are!”

Dou Zimo’s face went pale. “Soon enough, they’ll leap at us to bite.”

“Wonderful. Zombies, and now we have jiangshi—no hope at all!”

The group bolted away. Xiang Yu glanced back in shock at Jiang Yao. “Why did you summon these things?”

Jiang Yao felt a pang of guilt. She had no idea! Perhaps, in her mind, only these creatures could stand a chance against the zombies. Who would have guessed they would call forth jiangshi? These also belonged to the realm of ancient beings?

The hopping jiangshi pursued them relentlessly, but ahead their path was blocked by zombies. Xie Huaili scoffed bitterly, “Are you trying to make things more exciting for us? Craving some extra challenge?”

Jiang Yao was speechless. Wasn’t this her first time using the skill? Surrounded and trapped on both sides with no escape, the five had no choice but to halt.

“Fine, let’s fight.” Ji Yuanyuan’s voice trembled. “I wonder if being bitten by zombies and then by jiangshi could be like fighting poison with poison?”

Jiang Yao: “...”

With that mindset, success was almost guaranteed!

Just as they braced for battle, pale-faced jiangshi leapt past them, arms raised. The group stood dumbfounded.

When the two sides met, both seemed utterly confused. But it didn’t matter; neither had much intelligence. Zombies, when starving, would even gnaw on their own kind for a taste.

Seeing such a “delicacy” offered on a silver platter, the zombies wasted no time gripping the jiangshi’s hands and biting down.

One, two bites. Huh? The texture felt off.

The jiangshi were furious. They alone had the right to bite humans, yet here were creatures daring to provoke them?

Once one side struck, the other swiftly retaliated.

The two clung together, biting and gnawing fiercely.

The scene was nothing short of shocking!

The few who had kept their distance were speechless.

Ji Yuanyuan was wide-eyed. “Wow! If this were in a movie, it’d have to be censored!”

Xiang Yu spoke hopefully, “I wonder which side is stronger?”

Dou Zimo replied seriously, “Obviously the jiangshi. They’re smarter than zombies.”

They even began debating.

“Tsk.” Xie Huaili couldn’t help but glance at Jiang Yao, who frowned deeply, looking burdened.

He raised an eyebrow and leaned in to catch her muttering, “Do jiangshi really count? Did ancient times truly have jiangshi? This could be an interesting research topic…”

Xie Huaili: “...”

Is that how history majors think?

As the saying goes, when two corpses meet, one must suffer.

After a fierce brawl, the jiangshi gained the upper hand.

Seizing the chaos, the group launched a fierce attack on the stunned zombies, instantly turning the tide.

In less than twenty minutes, the zombies fled in disarray.

Suddenly, the surroundings shifted, and many noisy voices filled their ears.

“Damn zombies, I’m fighting you to the death!”

“Hey, who stepped on my foot?!”

“Sorry, sorry!”

Hearing the commotion, Jiang Yao knew they had reunited with others.

But now the problem was that the zombies had vanished, yet a horde of jiangshi still lingered behind her.

As the saying goes, calling on spirits is easy; sending them away is hard. Not even half an hour had passed, and she couldn’t make them leave.

Thus, the scene unfolded—

A group of students, overjoyed and tearful, gathered to share grievances, only to suddenly notice the dense crowd of figures behind them and gasp.

“Why are there so many zombies here?!”

“Wait, why is that guy still wearing ancient clothes? Are zombies into cosplay now?”

Someone recognized them and retreated in fear. “Idiot! Those are jiangshi!”

“Ah? Zombies evolved into jiangshi? Has this world gone mad?”

Sensing the living scent, the jiangshi twitched with desire but, restrained by some unseen force, stood stiffly in place, eyes fixed hungrily on their prey.

Amid the awkward atmosphere, Jiang Yao cleared her throat. “Um… sorry, these jiangshi were summoned by me.”

Upon learning about her summoning skill, everyone was intrigued.

“This skill is so cool!”

“But wait, can we interview you? How did you think of summoning jiangshi?”

Jiang Yao: “...”

Most were curious but cautious. Seeing the jiangshi didn’t attack, some boldly approached to take photos.

“Hey, can you take a picture with me? I’ve never seen a live jiangshi before!”

“Me too! Posting this on social media will go viral!”

Jiang Yao watched helplessly as people scrambled to take selfies with the jiangshi.

“Wait, hold on.”

You really trust me?

Looking at the jiangshi’s ravenous gaze, she worried for these foolish kids.

Someone stared at their photo with confusion. “Why does that corpse dude look at me so intensely, like he wants to say something but can’t?”

Xie Huaili sneered, “Dogs look at bones that way.”

Everyone shivered, stepping back several meters from the jiangshi.

Curiosity was one thing, but survival came first!
