Chapter 7: Love and Indifference

Liu Zhuyin was daydreaming about the future.
“Here, we’ll build a tall office building.”
“Your office will be right at the top!”
“The lower floors will be turned into a scenic area, so whenever you’re tired, you can look down at the view and relax.”
“Oh, and this office building needs to start construction soon.”
She didn’t forget to urge me.
Her eagerness left me no choice but to smile wryly and nod.
“Whatever you say.”
Liu Zhuyin was pleased with my response. Pointing at the dilapidated school building, she suddenly grew excited.
“Let’s go inside and take a look!”
“Let’s see our old classrooms from when we were kids—I still remember you drew a little turtle on the wall!”
I frowned and stopped her.
“That building is unstable; it’s better not to go in.”
Years of neglect had made it dangerous.
Even though I was about to leave her, I didn’t want anything bad to happen.
But Liu Zhuyin was indifferent.
“It’s fine. If you’re scared, just wait outside.”
With that, she eagerly grabbed Ning Yuanzhou’s hand and entered the school building.
I could only follow helplessly.
Seeing the ruin inside, I grew worried and couldn’t help but urge them to leave, which only annoyed her.
“Gu Yichen, why are you such a killjoy!”

“If you don’t want to come in, no one’s forcing you!”
Ning Yuanzhou quickly put on a peacemaker’s act.
“Don’t be mad. Mr. Gu is just concerned for your safety.”
“But don’t worry, Mr. Gu. I’ll take care of her—nothing will happen.”
Liu Zhuyin immediately nodded. “That’s right, with Azhou here, he can protect me.”
But just as she said that, the stair beneath her gave way with a crisp cracking sound.
A staircase had broken.
In a split second, without hesitation, I lunged forward.
As she fell, I used myself as a human cushion, pulling her tightly into my arms.
Falling debris struck my leg, sending a sharp pain through me, making cold sweat break out.
Seeing this, Liu Zhuyin showed a rare expression of anxiety.
“Gu Yichen, are you… are you alright?”
“Where are you hurt?”
I was too pained to speak, staring at my calf, which was a bloody mess.
I feared I had injured the bone.
“Mr. Gu, are you okay?”
Ning Yuanzhou hurried over, but whether by accident or not, he slipped in front of me, scraping his palm.
“Azhou!”
Liu Zhuyin screamed, her face pale with fright. She immediately abandoned me and rushed to Ning Yuanzhou’s side.
Her eyes filled with concern, tears welling up.
“You’re injured! How could you be so careless?”

“This is bad, it’s bleeding.”
Ning Yuanzhou grimaced in pain but put on a show.
“It’s nothing, just a small wound. Mr. Gu’s injury is worse.”
Liu Zhuyin was so frightened that tears streamed down her face.
“What do you mean small wound? There’s so much blood!”
“And this place has been abandoned for so long—there must be lots of bacteria. I’m taking you to the hospital right now!”
She urgently helped Ning Yuanzhou out.
Only as they were about to leave the building did she remember me.
For the first time, she offered an explanation.
“Azhou’s body has just recovered; his immunity is weak.”
“I’m in a hurry to get him to the hospital. You can call a car yourself.”
I watched her anxious figure disappear, smiling ruefully to myself.
I had almost broken my leg saving her.
And Ning Yuanzhou only had a scraped hand...
Yet she didn’t hesitate to leave me behind.
With tearful eyes, she took him to the hospital.
It turns out, love and indifference are truly unmistakable!
