Chapter 33: A Lifetime Lived Only for Oneself

“Spare Chen Xuan?”
East Invincible hesitated. An Immortal’s treasure was a rarity unseen in ages. If the Sun-Moon Sect could seize it, becoming a sacred ground in the future would be no problem at all.
But after giving it some thought, Su Yu had only said to spare Chen Xuan today. He had never said that they could not settle accounts with Chen Xuan later.
The Immortal’s treasure would still belong to him in the end.
It would be utterly foolish to offend the Holy Son of a sacred ground over this matter. The Sun-Moon Sect of today was no match for a sacred ground.
Any random outer-sect elder could crush him with ease.
Thus, he said, “Since the Holy Son has spoken, how could this old man refuse? Holy Son, feel free to leave with this fairy.”
“Thank you.”
Su Yu cupped his hands, then looked proudly at Fairy Chu Lingyun. “Fairy Lingyun, did you see that? This is the prestige of a sacred ground. With nothing more than a title, I was able to resolve the crisis threatening your master’s life.”
“Come with me. If you stay by your master’s side, you can only hide away in a small sect, with no hope of ever distinguishing yourself. You deserve a brighter future.”
As he spoke, Su Yu reached for Chu Lingyun’s delicate hand.
He believed that he had already displayed enough power. No matter how proud or gifted a heavenly beauty might be, she would surely be moved by him.
“Who said I was going with you?”
Chu Lingyun dodged him and looked at Su Yu with undisguised disgust. “Holy Son, please show some restraint.”
“I resolved the danger threatening your master’s life and saved yours. Should you not repay me for that? Surely you are not one of those ungrateful people.”
Su Yu’s expression changed, and he let out a cold laugh.
He had already seen through Chu Lingyun’s nature.
Knowing that she valued loyalty and affection above all else, he had deliberately asked East Invincible to spare Chen Xuan without her consent, thereby placing the title of benefactor upon himself.
That way, Chu Lingyun would have no choice but to agree.
Unless she was willing to bear the reputation of an ungrateful person.
“You…”
Chu Lingyun panicked. She was certainly not ungrateful, yet for a moment she had no idea how to respond. All she could say was, “I never asked you to save me.”
“But I saved you all the same. I am your benefactor, and you should repay me.”
With a single sentence, Su Yu backed her into a corner.
“I…”
Chu Lingyun was nearly in tears. It was the first time anyone had tried to bind her with moral pressure, and she had no idea how to deal with it. Helplessly, she looked toward Chen Xuan.
“Master, I…”
“You foolish girl.”
Chen Xuan smiled. “As long as you have no morals, he will have no way to use morality to pressure you.”
“No morals?”
Chu Lingyun stared blankly. What did her master mean?
“A person lives this life for oneself, not for other people’s opinions. The only person you must answer to in this lifetime is yourself. Do you understand?”
Chen Xuan spoke in an even tone.

In his previous life, he had cared far too much about other people’s feelings, subjecting his own heart to endless torment.
Only when he was on the verge of death had he understood the truth:
A person lives for himself.
“I understand, Master.”
Chu Lingyun nodded, though her expression remained faintly bewildered.
Did a person really live only for oneself?
Her mother was already dead, and the Ye family had abandoned her. It had been her master who had taken her in and taught her how to cultivate. The most important purpose of her life was to remain at her master’s side.
If she could not stay beside him, then nothing else mattered.
What use was some ridiculous reputation?
“Master, he…”
Chu Lingyun pointed toward East Invincible. What concerned her now was that Chen Xuan might not be able to defeat him. She was afraid that Chen Xuan would be injured.
“You foolish girl. Do you no longer trust your master?”
Chen Xuan tapped her lightly on the forehead.
“I understand now!”
Chu Lingyun brightened. Then she turned toward Su Yu and snorted. “You saved me because you wanted to. It was not as though I asked you to save me. Who decided that anyone you save must repay you? You are being absurdly self-important.”
“?”
Su Yu was dumbfounded.
What kind of sect was the Profound Pill Sect? Chen Xuan had actually taught his disciple to live only for herself and pay no attention to her reputation.
It was practically like a demonic cult.
Everyone knew that orthodox sects cared most about their reputations. Sometimes, for the sake of their reputation, they would even cast their lives aside.
“You!”
Su Yu was thoroughly enraged. “Very well. Since you refuse to appreciate my kindness, do not blame me for what happens next.”
“Master of the Sun-Moon Sect,” Su Yu said, turning to East Invincible, “I withdraw what I said just now. Do whatever you wish with them; it has nothing to do with me. Just leave Chu Lingyun alive. I will take her back to the sacred ground and teach her properly how to repay kindness.”
“Holy Son, rest assured. I will certainly leave her alive.”
East Invincible was overjoyed.
He had originally intended to avoid offending the sacred ground and spare Chen Xuan. He had never expected Chen Xuan to court death of his own accord.
“Hahaha, Chen Xuan! I offered to make you an elder, and you refused. The Holy Son offered to save your life, and you refused that too. Since you insist on seeking your own death, do not blame me for showing you no mercy.”
“The sun illuminates the mountains and rivers; the moon spreads across the seas. The laws of heaven and earth lend me their power. Sun-Moon Heaven-Earth Palm!”
East Invincible threw back his head and laughed.

His withered, wrinkled hands gathered two powerful streams of spiritual energy, one red and one white. The surrounding space began to twist violently.
Everyone’s expression changed at once, and unease filled their hearts.
“What terrifying spiritual energy! What technique is that? How can it be so powerful?”
“Is this the strength of the peak Divine Transformation Realm? It is unbelievably terrifying!”
“It is the Sun-Moon Heaven-Earth Palm!”
East Autumn’s eyes flashed strangely when she saw this. “The Sun-Moon Heaven-Earth Palm is the founding supreme art of the Sun-Moon Sect. It is a high-grade Heaven-ranked technique, obscure and difficult to comprehend, with extraordinarily demanding requirements for cultivation talent. In the past several thousand years, no more than three people have successfully cultivated the Sun-Moon Heaven-Earth Art.”
“If my aptitude had not been so poor that I could not cultivate the Sun-Moon Heaven-Earth Palm, how could the Great Xia Empire have been divided among three great sects?”
“The Sun-Moon Sect alone would dominate it.”
“A high-grade Heaven-ranked technique! The Supreme Elder is actually this powerful. With the Supreme Elder here, our Sun-Moon Sect will certainly become the strongest in Great Xia.”
“With the Supreme Elder taking action, Chen Xuan is doomed.”
“Kill Chen Xuan!”
“Kill Chen Xuan!”
The disciples and elders of the Sun-Moon Sect were all wildly excited.
Chen Xuan had previously confiscated every one of their storage rings, causing them tremendous losses. Now they all wanted to see with their own eyes how the Supreme Elder would blast Chen Xuan into dust.
“Interesting.”
The corners of Su Yu’s mouth lifted. “Peak Divine Transformation, combined with a high-grade Heaven-ranked technique. Chen Xuan is merely at the early stage of Divine Transformation. Even with the support of a sacred artifact, it would be impossible for him to retreat unscathed. Unless the weapon in his hand is no ordinary sacred artifact—but that is absolutely impossible.”
“Master!”
The powerful spiritual energy whipped Chu Lingyun’s hair into disarray, and anxiety churned within her heart. She had expected East Invincible to be powerful, but she had never imagined that the peak of the Divine Transformation Realm could be so terrifying.
He was several times stronger than Li Qingshan had been before.
“Chen Xuan.”
East Invincible gave a savage smile. With both palms thrust forward, two streams of immensely powerful spiritual energy—one red and one white—shot toward Chen Xuan.
“Let me show you the difference between the peak and the early stage of the Divine Transformation Realm. Prepare to die!”
“The Sun-Moon Heaven-Earth Palm?”
Chen Xuan chuckled softly, his heart utterly undisturbed.
As the formidable palm force surged toward him, terrifying enough to make everyone present turn pale, he merely raised his own palm with unhurried calm.
Then he met it head-on.
